Amid much speculation about Andy Murray's job security this week, the Blues have played at home as though they have no interest in saving their coach's job.  Following up a horrible 4-0 home loss to Colorado earlier in the week, the Blues sunk to a new low last night at home against Edmonton.   The Note played two dominant periods in building a 3-0 lead before Edmonton tallied one in the last 20 seconds of the second period.   The Oilers then proceeded to out-work, out-maneuver and out-play the Blues in third, tallying four goals to walk out with a 5-3 win.

Interestingly, the Blues separated these two embarrassments on their home ice with a shutout of the Red Wings in Detroit.   The Blues have been one of the best road teams in the NHL this year, but have been mysteriously horrid at home.   Their 5-10-2 home record is easily the league's worst mark.   In spite of the road success, it's not going to help Murray's job security if the Note keeps getting booed off their home ice, as they were last night.   The biggest indictment of Murray though, is the seeming lack of intensity and lack of effort from his team much of the time.

The Blues' inconsistency can primarily be traced to the lack off offense, particular from their young stars who they are supposedly building around.   TJ Oshie, Patrik Berglund, David Backes and David Perron are simply not producing, and the team also isn't getting enough consistent offense from the vets.    The goaltending has been good, but the lack of offense is killing this team.

My guess is that we will see a major shakeup in the next week or two, either a coaching change or a big trade that shakes up the team and gets it motivated.   One way or another, Checketts doesn't seem inclined to stand pat and wait.   His patience was rewarded last year with the Blues torrid second half run to a playoff berth.   I'm betting he doesn't bank on that happening twice in a row.
