As the Yanks continue their march toward the top of the AL East, Sox fans continue to deny the inevitable. But a quick look at the two teams winning % trends over the course of the season is pretty damning.
Yankees:
April: .391
May: .464
June: .593
July: .679
1/2 August: .833
They've improved their winning % EVERY month...even a .500 W-L for the rest of August would end the month at .643. They're .672 since June 1 and .725 since the break. Ouch.
Red Sox:
April: .667
May: .714
June: .481
July: .555
1/2 August: .545
Great start, but barely over .500 since. They're .523 since June 1 and .553 since the break. Snore.
Hey...who knows what will happen. But if you had to jump on one of these horses at the last turn before the home stretch, which would you pick?

I'm a Yankee fan, but everyone just has to calm down. 4 games is still the biggest lead in baseball. I still don't think they are winning the A.L. East.

Yep, it's a big lead. I know it's not invevitable, maybe not even likely.
But I like playing our best ball late, while the Sox seem to be wallowing. Don't know if we can make up for our awful start, but it's feeling pretty good right now.
