Head Coach Urban Meyer announced this week the Gators' starting offensive line, a veteran group expected to be one of the team's strengths. Click here for details from the Miami Herald.
Junior Jason Watkins takes over at left tackle for Phil Trautwein, who has moved to right tackle to protect lefty QB Tim Tebow's blind side. Jim Tartt returns at left guard, Drew Miller moves from right guard to center, and Carlton Medder slides over from right tackle to right guard.
With new starters at quarterback and tailback, the Gators expect this offensive line to be the foundation of an explosive Urban Meyer offense, fully functional after two seasons of a sometimes uncomfortable mix of talent and gameplan. But with Tebow running the spread option, and plenty of talent in the skill positions, this year's offense could rival even Steve Spurrier's most productive UF teams.
While last year's team relied on the defense, that squad only returns two starters. If the Gators are to compete for another SEC title, the offense will have to carry the load and give Meyer's young, inexperienced defense time to develop.
