The smoke has turned white. The nation knows that there is a QB for Notre Dame. We have been waiting since January 3rd, and now the day has come. Weis announced that he has picked his starter. The problem is, Cardinals Weis, Powlus, and Haywood aren't saying who it is.
When I saw this on the side, I felt sick to my stomach. I have anticipated this day, but it isn't the day. I have pondered countless times who the Irish's starting QB will be for the Georgia Tech-Notre Dame game. Is it Clausen. Let's see the pros and cons.
PROS for JC-He is the most accurate. He is the highest recruit. He is the best right now.
CONS-He is immature. He has not spent a year in Coach Weis' system like Jones and Sharpley.
PROS for DJ-His mobility. His arm strength. He has the most potential. He gives ND the best chance to win.
CONS-Not very accurate. He is inexperienced.
PROS for ES-Best leadership skills. Most experienced.
CONS-Doesn't have great potential. Not the sexy pick. He isn't mobile. He doesn't dominate in any one category.
With all of those being stated. I pick DJ. If ND wants to win 8 games this year, Jones is their man. Jones is a playmaker. His speed, size, and arm makes him look identical to Vince Young. If he starts four years, Notre Dame will win two championships under him. He is more accurate than Young when he was in his first year. Clausen will be a close second, but he could thrive being on the bench. I still say whoever starts this year will not start next year. Dayne Crist will win the job in my opinion next year. Notre Dame will always have a four QB race with their recruiting. It will be interesting every single year. I hope whoever Weis picked will represent us Fighting Irish proudly on September 1st and carry us to victory. I expect nothing less than a win every week. Hopefully, our QB will too.
The smoke is white, but that doesn't mean anything. Until the conclave steps out and announces it, Irish nation will be wondering, and in my case, vomiting.
