First off, thanks for leaving comments - keep them coming!
I sat down to a blank Word document today determined to craft the perfect solution to the preseason NFL problems (injuries, pointless games, too many games, and, well, more injuries), but, alas, I can't. I admit it, I just don't like, I enjoy Preseason. I consider myself a "big" Bills fan, so I like to see the youngsters get their reps and see them develop each season. I think NFL fans enjoy not only having the sport back from a long break, but like to see the players their teams recently drafted.
Do I think preseason is too long? Sure. My ideal solution would be to have three preseason games and maybe tack one more game on to the end of the season, because I want as much football played in the elements as I can. I think this would limit injuries a little, but it would be hard to prevent all injuries in the preseason with any solution. Look at the Giants-Ravens game from last night, a game where I think even the coaches were injured, those players get hurt with three games. I just think the evaluation of talent greatly outweighs the injury risks.
Also, I think some of the backlash from fans and the media in regard to preseason comes from those who feel the NFL is overexposed, especially on ESPN. I mean, ESPN does not need to run "NFL Live" everyday. For those who think the NFL is making a money grab, it is, but we consumers are obviously eating it up because approximately five preseason games can be seen this week on TV, check you local listings.
What do you think, P?
