While the big controversy is over Bonds and steroids in baseball their is another controversy that is less spoken of:The banning of Pete Rose from the Baseball Hall of Fame. "Charlie Hustle" broke the record held by Ty Cobb for all time career hits and finished his career with 4,256 hits. He is 5th alltime in runs scored, 2nd alltime in doubles and 12th alltime in walks. he is not in the hall of fame because he made a mistake; everyone makes mistakes. His mistake was betting on baseball. He has made several public apologies but Bud Selig wont budge. The funny thing is that compared to taking steriods betting on baseball seems like a rather minuscule crime considering he didnt fix any games. Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and probably Raffy Palmero will get into the Hall Of Fame despite discovered steriod use and Rose wont get in do to betting on baseball. Rose didnt set records artificially he set them with hard work. Bud Selig should just ******* let him be eligible and if he has to punish someone then punish Bonds because this Rose bloomed on its own.

Schul93: Absolutely disagree.
Every time Rose apologizes, he's apologizing for a lie he was trapped by in a previous apology. He said he didn't bet on baseball but he did. He said he bet on baseball and didn't bet on his team; but he did. He said he always bet on his team, bet on them every game. Except he didn't bet on them every game; he had one pitcher Bill Gullickson who he almost never bet on. And don't you think the bookmakers and other gamblers noticed that?
What Rose did doesn't equate with the juicers, becasue think what you want about those guys, what they did was not against the "rules". When Rose bet on baseball, he knew exactly what he was doing and he knew it was completely against the rules. It's the cardinal rule of the game: No gambling on baseball. Surely others have violated the rule and gotten away with it. But Rose didn't get away with it, he flaunted breaking the rule and thought his statistics would protect him.
So I absolutely disagree with you. Rose doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame simply because he bet on baseball. His statistics of course say Hall of Famer. But in this case the betting overwhelms the stats.
