Citizens of FanNation, we have heard your cry.
Over the last few weeks we have been monitoring several threads and trends here on the site, and we agree that there are improvements we need to implement. Let me address a few points that have been raised and what we plan on doing about them.
The Throwdowns section has been a resounding success but we see the need for modifications to make this feature far richer and a better experience. We will be deleting Throwdowns that are not about sports. We will remove Throwdowns that violate our site terms for use, even if they have a hint of sports. We will soon be creating Throwdown topics from our editorial staff, hoping to seed the site with more and better topics for debate. We understand there is concern about cheating so here’s what we need from you: Whenever there is a concern please contact us here at FanNation (TheModerator@Fannation.com), and we’ll audit the Throwdown and/or the user. But the only way to clean up the site is to report a cheater; don’t just write a blog or leave comments complaining—tell us about it and we’ll check it out!
As for moderation, we are looking at new ways to oversee the site to make it better yet not overly intrusive. Moderating is a delicate issue because we don’t want to stand in the way of good debate and social interaction but we must keep the site clean for all. One of the ways you could help is by contacting us if there are issues with specific users, harsh language, etc. After warning users who violate the site’s rules we will systematically ban those who continue to create an environment that is not informative or entertaining. Contacting us when there are issues and giving us as much info as possible is an extremely important part of the process.
We are currently working to support several new features for the coming football season, and you will see those launched very shortly. Once these changes are rolled out, our focus will shift to improving other areas of the site. The user community here is a great one, with lots of fantastic, smart, funny, loyal fans who love good debate and lively exchanges about sports. One of the most interesting things about a website like FanNation is that it is always evolving, and we want you to be part of the process. If you care about FanNation, let us hear your voice—tell us the things you like and don’t like and we’ll do our best to make changes that reflect the attitude our of users.
