I have noticed that here on Fannation there are many ardent fans who have varying degrees of sports knowledge. In reading many comments, throwdowns and blogs it has become apparent that many users on Fannation rely heavily upon well known names of players. Especially when it comes to football. In this information age where you have at least 4 ESPN channels and Fox Sports, not to mention a plethora of websites devoted to sports you would think there would be a heightened awareness of players and teams. With a few exceptions it seems to be just the opposite. Too often I read some user in a TD or comment saying that Player X is the best because 2 years ago he was in the pro bowl and had so many tackles, catches, interceptions, or rushing yards. That was 2 years ago. What did player X do last year? Well, it was an off year, or _________(insert rationale here). You get my idea. Many times players have earned a name for themselves by playing well and deserve their reputation. But other times it seems like there are fans out there who are akin to sheep following the sports writer/broacaster shepherd who tells you that the Panthers are the favorite this year to beat the Dolphins in the Super Bowl. But what does this expert really know about all 32 teams in the NFL? Only what they might be able to garner from travelling or what they read on the internet as well. Sort of a blind leading the blind catch 22. I challenge more Fannation users to actually go onto the Internet and read first about what they are talking about and check a few sources to see if what they believe and what they are reading actually check out. So many times misinformation is spewed out on a webpage without much thought or consideration. Sometimes I do that myself. What can I say? Too often I am confident in my knowledge and reading because I scan multiple sites daily. But there are times I must admit I don't have the full picture. Still, it would be better to see more users here back what they say with actual facts, thoughts, and sometimes even stats. Too often there are lists made as to who is the best and who will go to the Super Bowl, or even worse yet, someone calling another user "retarded" or a "moron" without any real basis for disagreement beyond sheer passion for one's team. I think I've rambled a bit and went afield of my original intent. I welcome any honest and useful feedback from the users on this page. If you're going to use name calling or insults, just keep on going and foget about leaving a comment.
