I had considered doing a blog about Michael Vick and his current situation for some time. There are supporters and haters alike on either side of the events. I can understand the passion on both sides. There are people who lament seeing a gifted African-American athelete lose his career and accept a plea that will be tantamount to an admission of guilt. There were and may still be many good things that Vick did for the community in GA and VA. Then emerges the truth about Vick's penchant for dogfighting. So many people have voiced their disgust and dismay about the treatment of the dogs and the acts that go along with dogfighting. However, I wanted to look at another aspect of the events that have surrounded Michael Vick. IMO we should look at what has happened to a wealthy and gifted individual as a cautionary tale for the rest of us. Can anyone say that they are above the law, whether they are a multi millionaire or a minimum wage worker? All of us make mistakes and may even commit infractions with the law. Granted, it may not be something that a federal prosecutor would be interested in. But how many of you out there speed to get to work, or cheat/fudge on your taxes? I'm sure we all have a skeleton or two of our own in the closet that we don't want anyone else to know about. My point is this. After seeing what has happened to Michael Vick, it reminds me that at any moment your life can change. Use the events that have ocurred in Vick's life as a source of self-reflection to see if there is something you and I can change in our life to avoid having life turn upside down like it happened to Michael Vick. Let's take something positive or at least useful out of what has been a horrible chapter in the sports world.
