Well Tiger fans this was no 8-5 season like last year but it was certainly not up to par. The Tigers had their struggles on offense which proved to be the down fall of the season. Finishing a respectable 9-3 regular season secured Les Miles job for another season but such was not the case for several of his coaching staff.
Some took well deserved head coaching positions at other schools and some were simply not renewed. We added to vital coaches in Billy Gonzales from UF and a new running backs coach Frank Wilson from the University of Tenn. Gonzales will certainly help Crowtons anemic offense and Wilsons New Orleans ties have certainly paid huge dividends thus far in the recruiting arena.
On to the season recap:
LSU started as they usually do winning several non conference teams and the weaker portion of the SEC schedule. There was a last minute goal line stance against an improving Mississippi State team that is sure to be fighting for the 4th position in the SEC West in the future. Luckily the Tigers were able to hold their lead and keep the unblemished record.
Enter the #1 ranked Gators of Florida. Always a tough battle, LSU seemed to be pump for the game but it did not translate onto the field of play. The Tigers did an excellent job holding UB's dynamic offense to the lowest scoring total in his history at the U of F. This would prove to be a lacking effort as the Offense was not able to answer the call on the Offensive side of the ball. Many agree that the play of the O Line and the lack of a true FB were the major deficiencies for the team. Florida left Tiger Stadium deflated and dissapointed with a 13-3 victory over the Tigers at home which broke a 31 game winning streak at night in Tiger Stadium.
More to come on this review in the near future............
