I just read not too long ago that the Jags named David Garrard their starting QB over Byron Leftwich and are now looking too either release or trade him. The question I pose would be this: Is it a good move?

While Leftwich is a proven winner, Garrard is, for the most part, inexperienced as a full time starter (10-8 as a spot starter 18 TDs 13 INTs) For that kind of sporatic production they could have stuck with Tim Couch even though he's not much of an upgrade over what they have right now)

I know he's injury prone and not very mobile (ala Jake Plummer) but most would have to admit that he's the most consistant starter that they've had since Mark Brunell. Although I'm sure that if they can't find a suitable trade partner so that they can dump what is ever left of Leftwich's contract they'll be forced to release him and I'm sure there will be more than a few teams looking to upgrade themselves at the QB position so any way that the situation's looking for Leftwich he isn't short of potential landing pads:

Minnesota: That QB situation has been unstable since Daunte left

Houston: Is Matt Schaub really the answer? I think not

Cleveland: They haven't had a decent QB since Testaverde and Kosar

Chicago: He would be an upgrade over injury prone Rex Grossman talent wise and nothing else

Detroit: He would be an upgrade over Kitna and might actually have some success there the Lions have the weapons to help him out they just need to use 'em properly

In the end the jury's still out on this one. Maybe they'll realize what they did wrong when they start to falter
