Join my group if you want to place fake money on real NFL games. Here's my plan:
Every week, before Wednesday noon, I will post a point spread for each NFL game that weekend. The spread will be of my own invention - I'll check out actual point spreads afterwards, but the fun for me is in coming up with my own spread.
Anyone who joins this group will have a budget of $1000. You can bet as much of that as you want on any combination of games. If you make money, you have a bigger budget the following week.
So let's say, for example, that I've made the following point spread for this week's preseason games (I'll just do the first four):
Buffalo at Detroit: -5
NY Giants at New England: +7 1/2
NY Jets at Philadelphia: -1 1/2
Washington at Jacksonville: +2
And let's say there are four people in this group: GoatSTD, mattmillen4barbecue, Big Bang69, and Sundance's House. (any resemblance to actual people is coincidental)
GoatSTD (placing his bets in the comments section of the blog where the point spreads were announced) puts $100 on Detroit, $200 on New England, $100 on NY Jets, and $500 on Jacksonville, leaving $100 in his bank.
mattmillen4barbecue puts $1000 on Buffalo.
Big Bang69 puts $400 on Washington, $300 on New England, and keeps $300.
Sundance's House puts $200 each on the visiting teams: Detroit, the Giants, the Jets, and Washington.
Now let's say these are the final scores:
Buffalo 20, Detroit 10 - Buffalo beats spread
NY Giants 16, New England 19 - NY Giants beat spread
NY Jets 40, Philadelphia 22 - NY Jets beat spread
Washington 23, Jacksonville 24 - Washington beats spread
GoatSTD only got one bet right, his $100 bet on the Jets. He gets $200 back.
mattmillen4barbecue got his only bet right. He gets $2000 back.
Big Bang69 got both bets right. He gets $700 back.
Sundance's House got three bets right. She gets $1200 back.
At the end of the week, I'll post the results, which will look like this:

Big Bang69 (700), $1000
Sundance's House (1200), 1400
Then I'll have my outcome:

I toyed with adjusting the point spread as I get results in, but even I don't have that kind of time.
