I just finished watching the last preseason game against the Vikes, and just wanted to make some observations.
Moore needs to be kept on the roster as the 3rd QB. If we cut him, he won't clear waivers. I suspect Gruden would sign him right away.
McQuistan and Marten need some work, but they look pretty solid at T. I really wanted the boys to draft Winston Justice last year instead of Carpenter, but these guys look like good consolation prizes. I just hope Flozell or Columbo don't blow a knee though, they're still at least a year away.
I've been very critical of the boys not drafting a wide reciever in any first day picks. TO and Glenn are still great players, but they're 34, and thuse more likely to get nicked up. I like Crayton, but I don't think he's more than a 3rd reciever. I had been down on Myles Austin, but he really impressed me tonight.
TE Curtis is the real deal. Makes me really wish we would have addressed WR or CB when we took Fasano. Don't get me wrong, I like Fasano, but he's never going to be a starter with Witten on the roster, and will likely leave via free agency once his contract is up.
I like Aaron Glenn, I always have. But it's abundantly clear that if Newman misses a chunk of time, we're in some real trouble. He's 35 and has lost a step. He's a nickel and dime corner at best. Jacque Reeves and Joey Thomas have not been consistent at all. We should really be searching the waiver wire for some help in the next couple of days.
At this point, being a #18 overall pick, I would say Carpenter is a bust. He's a decent player, but at that pick he should be a beast, and he isn't. Thus we used another #1 pick on Spencer. Speaking of which, he looks like the real deal.
DE Bowen and and Jason Hatcher played really really well. The depth behind Jason Ferguson concerned me, but I think we'll do fine.
I think this should be a good year. The defense will be improved, and Jason Garret is going to be a damn good offensive coordinator. I predict an 11-5 seaon, barely edging out Philly for the NFC East title.
