According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Steelers are attempting to extend the contract of RG Kendall Simmons. Simmons, a six-year vet out of Auburn, has been a starter for most of his career since being drafted in the first round (30th pick) out of Auburn in the 2002 draft.
My take....I like it. Simmons has not been as consistent over his career as I'd like to see, but at the same time he has matured into a solid guard. According to all reports, he has been dominating in camp this year. When a player gets better each year, he is someone you want to lock up.
He has had injury issues and is now living with diabetes. The diabetes is the basis I believe for his inconsistency and now has it under control and knows what he needs to do to excel in spite of the disease. He is an inspiration to many much as Jerome Bettis is to those with asthma.
Simmons should not break the bank to extend three-to-four years. I say go for it.

Both dominated the '70s and I was obsessed with them. The Steelers play that blue-collar style I love.....smash mouth and grind-it-out.
