Don't get me wrong. I enjoy college football. And I am not hating on college players. But in my honest opinion, college football gets more attention than it deserves. It's fun for alumni and future students to follow their favorite college teams, and see the honest competition between student athletes and often times future professionals. College is worthy of being on TV, and worhty of having loyal supporters to follow their team. But in all honesty the sport is over analyzed and overhyped.

ESPN is a major cause for this. They have hour long shows devoted simply to discussing who will be good or bad. We will figure it out for ourselves over the season, if we care enough. We dont need "analysts" telling us who is the best two weeks before the season even starts. The best will perform DURING THE SEASON. One drawback to college football (again this is my opinion) is that the best players can leave before they graduate, and have to graduate after 4 years. So at most the best players can only perform for 4 years, which ends up being less if they can make NFL $$$. This takes away from a great talent pool that the NFL can sink it's marketing teeth into, one of the benefits of the NFL, you can follow your favorite athletes as long as they want to stay with a team.

Another problem with college is the awards. There may be more unbeknownst to me, but the only major trophy for an individual player is the Heisman. The Heisman is a great honor, and is a great honor to any who recieve it, but is flawed. It never goes to the best performer of the season, it goes to the most popular and/or flashy athlete. Somebody who is known throughout the college world, and a mojority of times the person has been recognized as a contender before the season. Awards should be given to more than just one great athlete, because football is a team sport, like hockey, baseball, soccer, and basketball. It takes everyone wroking at different positions to make the team great. The NFL rewards players of different positions, while we only hear about one in College FB.

The NFL has superior talent, and has a few flaws of it's own, but in general College Football is over analyzed in the media. The American public loves the sport, and loves to watch college football. We don't need ESPN shoving useless facts about players down our throat when we can all just see it in action when the season gets underway.
