Congrats Cal, you were the better overall team. Now that were 1-1 I hope to have a tie breaker in a bowl game...
Tennessee should be commended for the character they displayed in that game. They fell behind early but continued to make it interesting quite a few times. Erik Ainge displayed an extreme amount of leadership and ability throughout the night, with a broken pinky mind you. The no huddle offense looked great, ran to perfection with a very calm and poised quarterback.
Cal scored the same amount of offensive touchdowns as we did, but there extra 14 points came off of a grizzly hit to the back which caused a fumble, and there phenom returner Desean Jackson with a punt returned for a touchdown. Tennessee actually had the ball longer and ran more plays, but once again, our special teams department looked terrible.
Our defense looked like a mirror image of what Cal's did last year, which was young and caught off guard. Chavis disappointed me with the lack of blitzes and pressure he failed to put on Cal. Defense is the one aspect that concerns me moving forward this year, but other than that, I am proud of my Vols.
Please commend Cal, not the Pac-10, for there victory over Tennessee last night. With Cal's tremendous speed and talent, they should definitely compete for a BCS bowl this year.
With all the hype surrounding which conference is best, we fail to give credit where credit is due, and credit is do here...
Credit Cal for beating UT
Credit Cal for scheduling a tough first game
Credit Cal's fans for being classy
Credit UT's fans, who showed up with over 10,000 plus at Bear stadium
Credit UT for scheduling a tough first game
Credit UT for displaying character in a hostile enviroment
That is it, please excuse yourself from the talk of which conference is best, because it takes away from personal accomplishments, and puts stigma's on other programs as well.
In closing, keep your head up Tennessee fans, you have a lot to look forward to. With an offense that looks potent, able to score 31 points in a hostile enviroment, and a very poised quarterback who reminds me a lot of this one guy that used to play for us, we will be alright.
