I am going to give you the top 5 Heisman candidates (in my mind) and what they did in Week 1. I will grade them and then tell you which on the bubble candidate helped his cause and which one hurt it.

Brian Brohm  A

He terrorized Murray State with 375 pass yards, 4 TDs, and a QB rating of 289. You guys think that Colt Brennen may have been better but Brohm's RAT was 68 points higher. What gave him the edge over others was his 289 RAT (68 points higher than Brennen's) and his CMP%, 77%. He completed 16 of 20 passes, which most QBs dont do.

Colt Brennen  A-

I knew this guy was good. I saw him last year and I thought he couldnt get better. I was wrong. He is my pick for Heisman and if he keeps this up he will shatter records. Whether he plays in Hawaii or not, 416 yards and 6 TDs is 416 yards and 6 TDs. No, them stats werent a typo. WHOA. He didnt even play some of the game because Northern Colorado was getting it up the butt and if he would have stayed in... who knows.

Mike Hart  B

He, by far, did the best out of the other RBs in the race even if his team lost in the biggest upset in recent memory. In 23 ATT he scored 3 times and ran for 188 yards. I still dont think that this guy will live up to the hype but this certainly gives me doubts of that. In an Appalation State win, Mike Hart was the player of the game (in my book) his preformence was far superior to that of any other RB. This gets him a B.

Steve Slaton  B-

He could have very easly surpased Hart in this but his only 14 ATT really screwed him over. With his 6.9 AVG, he would have had 175 yards if he ran it 25 times like Hart almost did. He gets a good grade just because he got 3 touchdowns on only 14 attempts. I expect him to give us more games like this or better. I have him as 2nd or 3rd in the Heisman race so his only 109 yards shouldnt worry any WV fans. Trust me, this guy is good and he will give you guys 200 yard games once in a while.

Darren McFadden  C

The Heisman favorite for most may have disappointed most with his only 1 TD in 24 ATT. The 151 yards rushing is good but if you are the Heisman favorite you put up them yards along with 2-4 TDs. He didnt do that and the reason I gave him a low grade is because, I dont think, he lived up to the hype. I dont know about everyone else, but, he doesnt deserve to be put ahead of Slaton and Hart right now. The 151 yards is great, but the point of the offense is to score and he is the featured guy of HIS offense.

There is the grades, now here is who helped and hurt their resume. All I did was take some guys that have an outside shot at the award and put them under 'helped' or 'hurt'.

Helped-

Ray Rice

We all know he is good. Can he be great though? This game gives us a look. 186 yards and 3 TDs.

Andre Woodson

Under the radar kinda guy will put his name out there this year and a good game did him good. 205 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT.

Pat White

Steve Slaton and himself make up a POWERFULL offense. How could I put him under hurt? 181 QB PAT, 0 INT

Eric Ainge

The only thing that could have been better was the yards but when you throw no interceptions (in my mind) you got yourself a good game. 271 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT

Hurt-

John David Booty

He had a decent game. His team won. They had some sputters though. Especially with the offense that was supposed to be the best in a long time. He did OK but should have done much better. Only 206 yards

Chad Henne

When you are considered one of the top QBs in the land, you are supposed to have a great game against a SUCKY team. He was upset by App State which is kinda embarassing. Only 1 touchdown.

Colt McCoy

This guy always is a surprise, every week. I know that. But still, he had an average game against a very below average team. He has a good WR crew to throw to and I cant see why he shouldnt do well but he didnt do that good this week. 2 INTs against Ark State.

How much do you want to bet that McCoy, Booty, and Henne all have outstanding games next week? They probably will. Who knows? Next week is a whole different story and I will try to tell you about it when the time comes.
