2007-08 Men's Basketball Schedule Released

Tar Heels face 13 teams that participated in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Aug. 23, 2007

The University of North Carolina men's basketball team will play at least 13 opponents this year that participated in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, including Davidson in the Tar Heels' regular-season opener on Wednesday, November 14, at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

The Atlantic Cast Conference released the full schedule today.

Six of the 13 opponents that played in last year's NCAA Tournament are ACC rivals, including Boston College and Duke, whom the Tar Heels play both home and away this season. UNC travels to Georgia Tech and Virginia and faces Maryland and Virginia Tech one time each in Chapel Hill.

Carolina also travels to national runnerup Ohio State on November 28 in a rematch of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge that UNC won last year, 98-89, in the Smith Center. That contest in Columbus, Ohio, is the mid-point of a five-game stretch in which UNC faces teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last year, and all five are on the road.

The Tar Heels will play Old Dominion in the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Invitational on Friday, November 23, and either BYU or Louisville in Las Vegas the next evening. After Ohio State on the 29th, Carolina also travels to Kentucky on December 1 and Penn in the historic Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa., on December 4.

Carolina will play host to two exhibition and 16 regular-season games at the Smith Center. The Tar Heels will face Shaw (Nov. 3) and Lenoir-Rhyne (Nov. 9) in preseason action and Iona (Nov. 18), South Carolina State (Nov. 20), Nicholls State (Dec. 19), UC Santa Barbara (Dec. 22), Nevada (Dec. 27), Valparaiso (Dec. 30), Kent State (Jan. 2) and UNC Asheville (Jan. 9) in non-conference home games.

Times have not been set yet for the Nov. 18 home opener vs. Iona or the Dec. 19 game against Nicholls State.
