Seeing Michigan go down was like everything I could have hoped and dreamed. I know I'm not smart like the writers and coaches, but I could not understand how a team who gave up 80 points in their last two games, and was blown out once they left the easy confines of the Big-ZERO Conference (I used to call them the Big-2, but that doesn't apply anymore) could be considered a top-15 team after losing 7 guys off of that defense that was so easily blown out. Add to that a bumbling coach, and Michigan, who's always overrated, was erroneously so this year.
The coaches and writers are a bunch of dumb-dumbs, and this goes to prove that teams should NEVER be ranked in the preseason. Wait until after the fourth week of the season before you rank teams. That way, the cupcakes are out of the way, for the most part, and the conference schedules will have started, and you can also see which conferences suck (Big-ZERO and Big-II (former Big-XII) and ACC) so you can objectively rank the teams from those conferences. No Big-ZERO team should be sniffing the top-10 right now, likewise the ACC. The only teams from the Big-II that should be in are OU and Texas. The SEC should have LSU, Florida, and Georgia in the top-10. The Big-East should have two (Louisville, WVU). The Pac-10 should have two teams, and that's USC and Cal, and believe it or not, I believe Boise State should be the final team in the top-10.
This is how the Top-10 SHOULD look after Saturday:
1) LSU - They're the best team, right now, in the best conference. USC will not have to play a defense this good all year.
2) USC - I don't think they're better than WVU, but the teams they play paint another easy path to yet another undefeated season, something they'd never have if they played in the SEC, or maybe even in the Big East, which is the second best BCS Conference right now.
3) WVU - How many teams have two LEGITAMATE Heisman candidates right now? As a Dawg fan, I KNOW how good White and Slaton are, and that was two years ago. If they can beat Louisville and if LSU loses once in the SEC (which is likely to happen), we'd have WVU playing in Nawlins.
4) Louisville - I know it was a Sisters of the Poor school, but it doesn't look like Louisville has lost a step from Petrino to Kragthorpe. Brohm looks great. The Big East has four good teams, and WVU and Louisville are really 1a and 1b, and as a football fan, I can't wait until they play. I know I'll record it on my DVR.
5) OU - Yet another Sisters of the Poor beatdown. The defense looks better, but I have to wonder how the QB will do against well, Texas, the only really good team OU will play this year. OSU, Texas Tech, or A&M might give them some fits, but they're all second tier teams in a pathetic conference.
6) Cal - They have the most exciting man in football outside of Slaton and White. Their QB finally seems to get it (although, as a Tedford QB, he won't accomplish squat in the NFL). Their defense is playing well (and will be the main reason they play well against USC). They beat an SEC team, albeit one which will finish 3rd or 4th in the East, but it is still an accomplishment. Unfortunately, when you play in a conference I call the Pac-1 plus 9, you're always going to be behind the 8-ball until you beat the men from Troy.
7) Florida - Yeah, Teblow look great playing Western Kentucky. That means nothing. Lets see how he is does against defenses who can takle and cover, and THEN you can pass judgement on the Lisping Lizard.
8) Georgia - All they did was dominate the "most explosive and balanced offense in ALL of college football" as Mark May and all of the idiots from ESPN have been telling us for the last month. All they did was prove on the field, against a team that was "primed for an upset," that the Dawgs are here to stay, and it's about time the morons at SI and ESPN recognize that fact. Lou Holtz actually came out an apologized to Mark Richt for CONSTANTLY doubting the Dawgs since he starting mangling the english language as a commentator for ESPN. Mark May did not apologize for doing that even longer than Holtz, because Mark May is an ****.
9) Texas - They struggled against a team they should have easily beaten, but I'll chalk that up to playing the first game. Colt McCoy is a good to great QB. They'll be okay on offense, but it's the defense that should have Longhorns worried. We'll see how it pans out, but they hold onto the top-10 for now.
10) Boise State - they deserve to be here. The vast majority of their players who had some part in last year's undefeated season are back, including the most important, the newly married Johnson (congrats). Their coach has yet to lose a game. They'll beat Hawaii, because they have something Hawaii doesn't: a BCS Conference caliber defense. Boise State should seriously consider joining the Pac-1 plus 9 sometime in the future. They're ready for prime time, and they SHOULD be ranked in the top-10. You've come a long way from your beat-down in Athens, Broncos. Congrats.
After one week of play, THESE are the best teams in Div-1A football. Notice I say Div-1A. No Big-ZERO teams in the top-10. And for those whining for Ohio State or Wisconsin, all I have to ask you, is how LEGITAMATE are those teams when they play in the Big-ZERO? They're not. If you have a problem with that, take it up with Lloyd Carr. And for you ACC spankers, don't even say VaTech. They barely beat ECarolina, and lost their bowl game last year to a true freshman QB. Your QB stinks and your defense is overrated because who do you play against? That's right, OTHER ACC teams!

way too high for georgia, ok state clearly sucks, you just say that because you are a fan of theirs.

How is that too high? Unlike any other team in the top-10, Georgia actually played a team that was BREATHING. They should be rewarded for doing so.
Their performance was impressive.
But let me guess, instead of giving Georgia credit, you're going to be like Mark May and the other idiots at ESPN and say, well, OSU just wasn't any good.
Nope, not buying it. If they were supposed to upset the Dawgs, and then the Dawgs came and blew them out, that means the Dawgs should be a top-10 team, for now.
Once again, my top-10 is based on PERFORMANCE.
Stop being a hater.

I will start by saying I agree with a lot of what you said, but it would be boring to list all of that. So, here are some of my disagreements:
1. Did you watch the first half of the LSU game? They struggled bigtime despite Miss State's QB turning into Reggie Ball. This weekend, their win won't be giftwrapped. At this point, Southern Cal is clearly better.
2. I think you're giving Cal too much love. I know they scored 40 points on Tennessee, but their defense leaves something to be desired. I think they belong 5-10 spots lower.
3. I would put Georgia in the high teens, but there's no sense in us debating that.
4. We won't know how good Boise St is until they play at Hawaii at the end of the season. You may be picking them because you think they're going to go undefeated and make a BCS Bowl, but it's a stretch to say that they're better than Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, or Auburn. Don't you remember when they came to Athens a few years ago?

Droopy, it's all performanced based. How can you see Georgia play this weekend and say Wisconsin, Ohio State, or VaTech is better. The Dawgs deserve to be in the top-10 this week. We'll see how it plays out, but for dominating a team that was supposed to come into Athens and upset them, they deserve it this week.
MSU has a chance to win 6 games in the SEC this year, and that means a lot. They're a better team. ESPECIALLY on defense. Yes, their offense isn't up to SEC snuff, but they have a decent defense.
Cal deserves the love because they're not going to play a team that good all year in the Pac-1 plus 9 until they play USC. Not saying that Tennessee is in the same boat as USC, it's just they're better than any one else in the Pac1 plus 9 (Oregon, UCLA, etc.).
And Boise State has earned their spot. They had a good team last year, and return most of everyone who matters. If they were good enough last year, they're good enough this year. If they were in a lesser conference like the Big-ZERO, ACC, or Big-II, they'd be in contention to win it. You have to give them credit for that.

so you are saying that boise state deserves to be there because of their performance last year? fine, but that means that georgia should be way out of the top ten, because of their performance last year.
Bigdleech

Bigleech, not only because of their performance last year. Because of everyone they're returning this year was on that team. Their coach has never lost a game. I may be guilty for overrating them, but I feel much better in putting Boise State in the top-10 than when I saw Michigan ranked number 5. I've been railing against that in my home paper since that came out. I've been on record many a time saying that Michigan was the most overrated team in all of football, and how I personally wouldn't rank them in the top-15 based on the facts of how they're arriving to this season.
As far as Georgia being ranked far behind... dude, they finished at 9-4, beating three straight ranked teams (all in the top-16) whom they were supposed to lose to. The should have been a top-20 team in both polls when the season ended, and were a top-25 in the AP. The coaches poll is worthless because none of those guys actually care about the ballot. They just ape the writers poll as much as they can, or try to help their coaching buddies out. Anyway, Georgia beat the No. 5 team in the nation at their home, beat the Coastal Division Champs, and then beat the supposed "best" defense in the nation in their bowl game while being led by a true freshman.
How you finish is more important than how you got there, which is why I was so incensed at Michigan being in the top-5 to begin the season. They sucked last year. They were punked and shown for what they were: the product of an insanely bad Big-ZERO Conference. How in the hell were they ranked so high after that? Did their players suddenly gain all the SPEED they were missing in 9 months? Did their coaching staff grow the BRAIN they were missing in nine months?
No. And no.
Dude, don't hate on Boise State and Georgia.
They belong. Michigan never did.
And two hours after I posted this, Stew Mandel, Georgia-hater extraordinair saw to it to place the Dawgs in the EXACT same position I did. He also so fit to rank Wisconsin, a Big-ZERO team in the top-10, but that's his dumb**** priority.

Apparently you didn't watch Tyler Donovan through all over Washington's D (a team that will do well out west this year) and had 3 backs that all had great rushing ypa.
Boise State at 10? I like them, don't get me wrong, but who'd they beat up? Someone in the WAC? Texas at 9? They played poorly and Whisky should be at 9 at the very least w/ Texas out of the top 10.

Also, if you're going based on last year's performance, Wisconsin = #1 defense and if it wasn't for the 2 teams per conference for BCS bids, Wisconsin would've played in a BCS matchup (and deserved it more than ND which gets to skirt that rule).
Wisconsin returns all but 5 starters from last year, finished last year with 1 loss on the entire season (with a rookie coach), and is going for its 11th straight victory this weekend (which I believe is the longest in the nation thus far).
So please, tell me, how is Georgia better?

& the BS Broncos lose to the same team that Whisky murdered the previous week.
Buh bye to Georgia & BS in your top 10 for your "Real Top 10 CF Teams after Week 2". Granted I'm writing this before the Wisconsin v UNLV game has even started but if Wisconsin loses, I'll eat crow & personally worship your wisdom.

After that performance against South Carolina at home, how would you rate UGA's performance? Still in the Top 10?
