As a college football fan I just wanted to say a few things regarding the effect of the Appalachian State Mountaineers monumental upset of the University of Michigan Wolverines. Just let me say that I understand and appreciate the pain and frustration that all Michigan fans are feeling right now. I am not here to bash Michigan talk any trash towards their program, even though I bleed scarlet and gray. My problem is with the scheduling of 1 AA schools in the first place. I feel that by playing these lower echelon schools the top programs are not doing fans any justice. The fans want to see great games against great teams. I dont mean to take anything away from Appalachian State, they played the game of their lives in an environment not condusive to winning and came out with one of the greatest upsets in college football history. For Michigan or any top tier program one loss does not knock them out of National Title contention, if that loss is against a 1 A program. With that being said, Michigan has lost any chance of a dream season that could end in a National Championship, all because the Umiversity wanted to schedule a "patsy game" against a 1 AA program. The Univeristy of Michigan's president and athletic department has stripped away from these kids and fans everything they have worked so hard to achieve over the last 8 months. The coaches and faculty of Michigan should be ashamed of themselves for this and all of coaches of all other top tier 1 A programs should take heed of the mistakes they have made. There was absolutely no good going to come of Michigan playing appalachian state. Win or lose there would have been a good chance Michigan would have been on the outside looking in. Unfortunatly for them their no longer in the ball park. For Ohio State even the small chance they did have to play for the National Title again disappeared as soon as they scheduled Youngstown State.
