I've read a number of knee-jerk reactions to the Donovan McNabb press conference. Apparently there are many of you out there who believe that McNabb said he was better than Favre. What's funny is if you read any article or actually see the video or transcript of the press conference it's hard to believe that McNabb was at any time disrespecting Favre or making any comparisons between himself and the future HOF'er. Here are the links to the video of the press conference, or for dial-up users a text transcript of the press conference.Text version: http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=13851
I welcome your opinion and input after you have seen or read what McNabb has said. Both Reid and McNabb spoke of Favre with the utmost of respect. The only area that could be construed as a "sharp stick" poke at Favre would be the "interceptions" comment. McNabb was asked what's the difference between him and Favre and he said "I don't know, maybe interceptions. There are some throws you would make and some throws you wouldn't." Favre is a notorious gunslinger with a rocket arm who gambles with forcing plays where others would fear to tread. This is why he has so many touchdowns, and a whole load of INT's. McNabb, even if he were to stay healthy enough to play to 38 would have to be an absolute TD and INT machine in order to even get in the same neighborhood as Favre. There is no comparison between the two. McNabb has had a spotty, injury ridden career. But he has been electric when on the field from 2000 on. Favre, ever since he took over for Majkowski (sp?) has had a career that few have or will be able to top. McNabb and Reid both stated this. McNabb vs. Favre is a non-issue and an apples to oranges comparison. Tell me what you gathered from viewing or reading the press conference. Because this blog is totally in the IMO mode.
