Yes. I really do doubt that anyone will bother to read my posts, but I don't mind.
Let me establish the fact that I am a Padre and Charger fan. I've been kinda depressed lately due to the Padres going 4-6 the last 10 games, but am confident they will make the playoffs through the NL West, or the NL Wild Card, whichever.
Yesterday, the San Diego Chargers beat the Chicago Bears 14-3 at Qualcomm Stadium. Here are my tidbits of that game:
- That punt by Scifres that hit McGowan supposedly hit a TV wire and dropped straight down. Bad karma for the non call by the officials on the neutral zone infraction by Tommie Harris, I guess.
- Rex Grossman was markedly improved over last season, even though the statistics don't show this. The only interception he threw was on a ball that his #1 wide receiver, Bernard Berrian, gave up on.
- That Bears defense was stifling. Nothing more than to say that LT rushed for 25 yards. This reminds me of the Eagles game where Tomlinson rushed for 7.
- Philip Rivers was off on a lot of his throws. His screen pass in the first quarter was a great example. Tomlinson waited for the pass about 4 yards away from Rivers, but Rivers threw the ball behind and over Tomlinson, and LT wasn't able to haul it in.
- Tomlinson, although stopped for most of the game, came through in the biggest moments: a 17-yard TD throw the Antonio Gates late in the 3rd, and a 7-yard TD run in the 4th accounted for the Chargers' only scores.
- It's a shame that Mike Brown is out for the year again. He doesn't get the recognition that Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, and Brian Dawkins get, but I really truly believe he is better than all three of them except for maybe Ed Reed.
- Bears need to upgrade their running game. Seriously. I bet anything that the Bears GM is doubting his own move to let Thomas Jones go in the offseason...
- TE Antonio Gates had a fantastic day with 9 hauls for 108 yards, but it seems that nobody cares.
Other games:
- Yeah, the Falcons miss Michael Vick. Joey Harrington showed his true Detroit Lions/Miami Dolphins form, sucking it up and proving he's nothing more than a marginal back-up.
- QB Roethlisberger was excellent, although it was against the Browns, a division I-AA NFL team, if there was such a thing. That catch by Hines Ward was sick.
- Patriots lived up to their hype by pounding the Jets soundly, 38-14. Moss didn't look like the Oakland Raiders' Moss, going for 183 yards with a TD.
- Start Brady Quinn. Now.
- Seattle is the second best team in the NFC, after the Bears. I thought the Eagles would take that title, but after their loss to the Packers, I'm degrading them to a Wild Card team, with Dallas taking the NFC East. I know, I know, it's a little harsh to be so judgemental, especially just after Week 1, but what can I say, Dallas looked good, Seattle looked good, and Philly didn't.
That's all for now. I need to go eat dinner. My prayers are with TE Kevin Everett. Yours should be too.

Although Benson's and Peterson's fumbles made me ill, their offensive line was the main culprit for the lack of a running attack. I didn't see them open any holes at all. I doubt TJ would've had any success either. Just look at his numbers against the Pats.
Born under a bad sign-Mike Brown
Hopefully a full recovery=Kevin Everett
