It just sickens me to think of Mike Brown on the Bears' sideline again.  It's not that I thought he wouldn't get hurt this year, but I was hoping he would be able to avoid a season ending injury.  The odds were against him and his history.  The way he plays it's all or nothing, sacrificing his body for the sake of his team.  He was flying around on Sunday making plays, leading our secondary with his veteran presence, and making the defense more dominant than I've ever seen as a fan.  It was a great site to see him back on the field and playing his best against one of the best offenses in the league.  There's no doubt in my mind if he and Tommie Harris had suited up for the SB, the outcome would've been different.  A part of me understands he may never again suit up for the Bears.  It's got to be very difficult for a fierce competitor like himself to have to rehabilitate both physically and mentally 4 out of the past 5 years.  It hurt to see such a tough man break down and cry in post-game interviews.  I could care less about the loss the Bears just suffered, rather feeling empty inside because of another setback for one of the best safeties in team history. 

When Brown played at Nebraska, Tom Osborne dubbed him the greatest player he's ever coached.  That's saying a lot for a program that put out NFL talent at an amazing rate back in the 90's.  He doesn't have great size or speed.  Rather his intellect, intensity, savvy, and knack for the ball that make him one of the most underrated defensive backs in the league.  

I harken back to 2001 when the Bears were playing in way over their heads.  Winning ugly was the name of the game and Brown was always at the center of attention.  He returned the winning interceptions for touchdowns to defeat the 49ers and Browns in consecutive weeks.  I remember my Mom leaving the aforementioned game early cause the Bears were losing pretty badly.  I called her after the play knowing she was at the game and just witnessed a miracle.  She said what?  No way, you're kidding me!!!  Needless to say, she didn't even think of leaving the next week when the Bears were losing against the Browns.  

Mike Brown will always be one of my favorite Bears of all-time and I hope I'm wrong about his pending future with the team.  Brown holds the Bears all-time record for defensive TDs with 7, and had an INT and fumble recovery in the Chargers game before he got hurt.  He'll soon be on the wrong side of 30, and I'm sure he's at a crossroad in his career/life.  While Urlacher is the most irreplaceable fixture on their defense, Brown is their heart and soul.  Get well soon.
