A new season is now officially in full swing!
IND (41) Vs NO (10)
Finally we are done with that silly preseason, and real games start. This was a great opening weekend with a lot of close games. Peyton Manning started off the season with a bang showing he is still the defending superbowl champ, dismantling the NFC favorite, NO Saints. The big surprise was the Colts defense, which lost a tremendous ammount of starters in the offseason, yet looked better than they ever have with a more aggressive and quick secondary. I think the Colts are destined for another trip to the AFC Champioship game.
NE (38) Vs NYJ (14)
The NE Patriots may also be destined for the AFC title game with all their new toys. Randy Moss went 9 for 183 and a couple of TD's in a shalacking of the Jets. They were firing on all cylinders, the O-line gave Brady all day to make any play he wanted, the scheme was just impeccable. Their defense is still without two of their best players in Richard Seymour and Rodney Harrison, who are some of the best at their positions. This team is downright scary.
MIN (24) Vs ATL (3)
How bout those Vikings? I know, it was against the lowly Falcons, who are know led by the uninspiring play of one Joey Harrington, but that defense is impressive, TWO picks of TD's and the rookie, Adrian Peterson looks like he is ready to make his campaign for rookie of the year, after a stellar performance in his first NFL game, doing it on the ground, and getting a reception for a TD.
DEN (15) Vs BUF (14)
The Bills-Broncos game was the most exciting game of the weekend. Future Hall of Famer, Jason Elam missed two FG's during the game, but when they were out of timeouts, and the time was ticking down, they set up for the field goal in record time, and Elam punched it through for the last second victory. Kevin Everett, TE for the Bills went down with a possibly life-threatening injury to his neck/spine. Truly a terrible thing, we all hold him in our thoughts and prayers. I think this will definitely have a detrimental effect on the play of the team, who cant possibly focus on the game with this in the back of everyones minds.
PIT (34) Vs CLE (7)
The Steelers dismantled the Browns, and Romeo Crennell who made a mistake by not starting Quinn in the first place, pulled Charlie Frye after only 7 series and put in Derek Anderson, who is not the answer. Then they went ahead and traded Frye to the Seahawks....lets just start the Brady Quinn era.
WAS (16) Vs (13)
The Redskins showed signs of life, pulling out a victory in OT against the Miami Dolphins. I think Campbell ti Randle-El is a decent combo, and they do have the talent, but cant they bring it together? We will find out soon.
GB (16) Vs PHI (13)
The Eagles looked horrible against the Packers. The Eagles muffed two punts, and the Packers capitolized. Brett Favre still seemed to be frustrated, because he knows that his team is not that good. However, the Eagles are going to have a long season, and Donovan McNabb, a LOOOOOOOOOONG season, if they dont start playing NFL football.
TEN (13) Vs JAC (10)
The Titans led by the very Champish Vince Young took one from the Jags, who just looked a mess. Their running game got less than 50 yards, and you just dont win like that. The Titans D was impressive, and their front 7 looks like one of the more physical units in the league. Lendale White also looked good running the rock. They will be a threat for the Wild card late in the season.
HOU (20) Vs KC (3)
The Houston Texans looked good against the horrendous mess that is the KC Chiefs. LJ didnt get it done, and neither did any of them. Matt Schaub looked good for the Texans, and Im sure the Falcons are rueing the day they let him go. Schaub to Johnson might be a good combo this season. Mario Williams finally got a good highlight, recovering a fumble and returning it for a TD, while racking up 2 sacks. I hope they finally get it going, its good for the game to have these expansion teams be competitive.
SEA (20) Vs TB (6)
The Tampa Bay Bucs lost Garcia and Cadillac Williams in the same series, and looked like it was going to be a long season. Seattle looked decent but better start playing better offensively if they plan to take a trip to AZ in February.
SD (14) Vs CHI (3)
LT throws for a TD, and Antonio Gates made some big plays. This team has a lot of talent, and LT is a leader who is only out for the ring right now. I think the Chargers are going to be hard to figure out until a few more weeks. The Bears have to rely on the leadership of Rex Grossman, so if they cant get the running game together, the Bears will not see the playoffs. They have a superbowl caliber defense, but they just dont have a QB, which is critical to the success of any playoff team. Even the 2000 Ravens' Trent Dilfer was a great game mamanager, and say what you want, but they havent been back to the big game since.
DET (36) Vs OAK (21)
The optimistic Jon Kitna said the Lions will have a huge season this year, and they showed that they are much improved than they have in years past. I think this offense will put up huge numbers ,with the rookie phenom, Calvin Johnson leading the way. The defense leaves something to be desired, so I dont expect them to be a legit threat, but they should be exciting to watch. The Raiders, who need to be destroyed and rebuilt look like they are still a couple years away from getting out of the cellar.
DAL (45) Vs NYG (35)
Dallas showed that they have reason to believe in QB, Tony Romo, who looked confident behind center, and TO has been making efforts to show he is not a horrible human being, but I need to see more til Im convinced, their defense need a lot of help in that secondary. The Giants looked horrible, Eli just cant seem to get that depression out of his eyes. The Defense was a mess up front and I think they will be fighting to reach .500
MNF
CIN (27) Vs BAL (20)
The Ravens offense looked horrible, and the defense was good, but not great. Injuries all over the place, and the Bengals looked Hungry. Chad Johnson is a threat who just needs to show some more consistency and he can, arguably, be the best in the league.
SF (20) Vs AZ (17)
The Niners played ugly, but showed the heart and the passion to take one for the Genius, Bill Walsh who was honored at halftime. Alex Smith played horribly, but put together some huge plays on the final drive to make the win possible. Our secondary looked good and made some big plays. The defensive line got decent pressure, which has been a problem in years past. The Niners are still a year away from being a real threat, but they showed great promise. I think the Cards looked decent, their defense played well, however Leinart was erratic and they just couldnt get it done
Brooklyn Decker
