1. Ohio State #10 @ Washington
Give credit to the Huskies for their victory over Boise St. last week, as they beat a ranked opponent for the first time since '03. Yes, it wasn't the same team that beat Oklahoma those few short months ago, but the Broncos do feature a top running back in Ian Johnson, who the Huskie defense held to under 100 yards rushing. Offensive production dropped a little for Washington compared to their week 1 game against Syracuse, but that is what happens when you go from playing the bottom of the barrell to a top-25 team.
Ok, OSU's offense was less than spectacular against Akron, well that is what happens when you are starting a QB that had all of 10 passes in his first 2 years. That aside they did look good against 1-AA Youngstown St., who lost in the semifinals in 1-AA to App. St. last year. Key stat in the Akron game is 69 yards of total offense for the Zips. Ohio St. has not been challenged by a good team this year, but their defense has done exactly what they should against lower opponents. They have given up 244 yards and 6 points and making opponents punt the ball 21 (14 by Akron) times.
Prediction: No upset here. Washington keeps it close for 1st half, but offense struggles as the game goes into 2nd half. Buckeyes win by 17.
2. Arkansas #16 @ Alabama
Bama lost this game last year because of a missed extra point in overtime, and the offense gave up 6 point to the Hogs D on top of that. Mcfadden is a beast, there is no denying that, and Felix Jones helps make the backfield one of the best in the country. Casey Dick though, will not scare a good SEC defense with his arm. Alabama rush defense has been good so far this year, but this is the first true test. Wilson has yet to throw a touchdown this year, but the offense has been led by freshman Terry Grant: 42 car 307 yds 7.3 avg 5tds.
Arkansas, like many teams in week 1, won, but not in the fashion people expected. The defense gave up almost 400 yards to Troy including 162 yards on the ground. Mcfadden and Jones will have to lead the offense on the ground, and perhaps Mcfadden through the air as well, as he is the only Hog with a td pass this year.
Prediction: Upset. Alabama stacks the box to slow Arkansas running game, and Casey Dick throws at least 2 ints that lead to Tide points. Alabama beats the Arkansas running backs by 10 and get into the top-25.
3. Boston College #21 @ Georgia Tech #15
Georgia Tech has given up under up less than 150 ypg avg in their first 2 games this season, sounds great, but the opponents were Notre Dame and Samford. In those 2 games GT has only put up a total of 206 yards through the air with no touchdowns. The only bright spot on the offense has been Tashard Choice who has 306 yards rushing in the first 2 games including 196 against ND.
Boston College has given up over 700 yards through the air in their first 2 games. The bright side to that is they have intercepted the ball 9 times and only allowed 3 passing touchdowns. With a stingy rush defense that has only yielded 58 yards, BC, has done this against 2 conference rivals, including defending ACC champ Wake Forest.
Prediction: Upset. In a preview of the ACC championship, BC goes into a hostile environment and emerges victorious, while showing GT they will be the team to beat in the ACC.
#5 Florida vs. #22 Tennessee-Fulmer goes for 3rd straight (made a mistake here as pointed out below, Fulmer still loses though) win in Gainesville and fails. #9 Louisville vs. UR Kentucky-Wildcats score 60.......Cardinals 61. #1 USC vs. #14 Nebraska-Huskers want revenge in Lincoln, but USC needs to impress after bye.
