For as long as I can remember there has been contreversy in who deserves the top two spots in college football, too many times theree are more than 2 deserving teams come seasons end, the media is responsible for giving us the championship game they believe should be played, idiots.....I know big10 and pac10 are in areas where these reporters are and it sells to say that teams from these conferences are the best....so USC is gonna have a tough time against washington and oregon, give me a break, what if they lose to Cal, then I guess they(Cal)will deserve that #1 spot, it is clear that the pac10 is far more talented than any other conference and there top seed will deserve to play in the national title game(haha), but for us real football fans down south and around middle america, our 2 top seeded teams will have to play 2 games against one another, giving chance that none may finish the year undefeated(big12 and SEC)competion is tough no matter what anyone says, if you have to play the same team twice in a year it is tougher to win both games, this year USC will have to play only 3 top 25 teams, and LSU, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma will each have to play 5 or more plus playing each other, if you can honestly watch a game where USC beats Nebraska but still gives up 31 points and say they are better than the other top 5 teams you must need to watch more football, I can honestly say the other top teams would not have given up half those points and scored more than they did, it is pathetic that the media can seat around and say USC is the best and Cal is awesome, oh and Oregon too...add enough schools to play a conference championship game and then maybe you will deserve a top spot, it is time for this nonsense to end, preseason polls are foolish and keeping #1 spot after less than perfect performance is just lack of realism....watch all the games, see the players, not the city in which they live.......

Man, you hit the nail on the head. If you don't mind, I will add a little to what it takes to be #1.

Depth. I am currently in a Throwdown (SEC vs. Pac-10). I am for the SEC. The way and one of my arguements was the PAC-10 plays football without defense. It's always a shootout. I brought to everone's attention that LSU has outscored their 3 opponents 137-7. While USC played 3 opponents and only outscored them 87-41. Well he came back at me with when SC was up 41-10 they started rotating in 2nd and 3rd string. Ok.....and????? Where's the depth from the "Best D" in the nation? (USC) You don't think for one min. that LSU keeps their starter in the whole game do you? They put the 2nd and 3rd sting D in starting in the 3rd quarter. And only gave up 7 questionable points. 10 returning starter, ok...... And that makes them the "Best D" in the nation??? The best team in the nation doesn't give up 20.5 points a game. And on offense, LSU won last week against MTS 44-0 with their starting QB Matt Flynn and #1 WR Early Doucet.

I am tired of hearing the SEC and Big-12 teams have weak schedules. And this non-scence is always coming from the West Coast Media. If you would coach a top notch program that played a Conference Championship game at the end of the season, would you want to schedule a BCS team into your already tough schedule? For those fortunate ones out there don't doesn't have a championship game in their conference, that is an extra game on your schedule. Most of the time, it's a game against a team who you've already played.

i agree?

Theres actually an east coast bias. Reporters are more likely to favor schools on the east coast, so the Pac 10 actually doesn't get the respect they should most of the time.

Strength of schedule is a big factor, but we'll see if USC, LSU/UF, and Oklahoma/Texas can make it through their schedules undefeated before we start complaining that someone was left out. If LSU is #2, then that's as good as #1 anyways b/c of the way the BCS works. Right now, it's USC's and LSU's title game to lose to someone else.

September 16, 2007  04:32 PM ET

Does USC have an easier road? I'm inclined to say yes. Undefeated Florida would get into the title game before undefeated Cal. Whether undefeated UF would get in before Oklahoma or Texas is another matter to be determined.

USC all the way!!!

As they have said at Stanford for over 50 yeras - Fight On, for USC; Fight On, Fight On for salary.

Boy, you guys don't watch much television do you. Try recording all the games for about three weeks and one thing you will find is the PAC-10 gets absolutely hammered over and over and over again. The SEC is hyped as the best in the country. Just from a numbers standpoint, I would hope the SEC would be a little better with 12 teams.

As far as a conference championship game, why do we need it when every team plays each other. Every team doesn't play each other in the other conferences, plus look at your OOC games. The PAC is playing everyone while the Big-12 and SEC play the Sun-Belt and Division I-AA.

Nonetheless, most of this happens because we cant get the match-ups head to head. I've got a great playoff proposal but no one reads my blog.

If you read my former comment, BCSBusters, you would've seen that I said that there was an east coast bias.

I hate when Pac 10 fans insist that the SEC plays bad OoC games. NO THEY DON'T! What do you call Cal/Tennessee, LSU/VT, Auburn/USF, Kentucky/Louisville, Georgia/OK St., UF/FSU, UGA/GT, Vandy/Michigan, Mississippi St./WVU, and Arkansas/USC? These are not games of tidly-winks here. Granted, the Pac 10 does have good OoC games, but so does the SEC.

USc, r u singing nelly

The biggest thing with the Pac-10 is that is plays a very quick game most of the time. One of Oregon's biggest strengths is the ability to score very quickly and often. If you look at the box score for the Fresno game, you'll see that Fresno State held the ball several more minutes than the Ducks, yet they still lost by 31 points. The Pac-10 is an offensive conference, save maybe UCLA, we like to run up the score out here, and it works. Also, I would never want the Pac-10 to expand, or include a conference championship, we play every team once, the only conference to do so, so every team gets a shot at every other team. No one can escape say USC and have a perfect season.

September 18, 2007  08:22 PM ET

sure thing buddy, playing each team once is easy, in the big12, acc, sec and others that do have a conference championship have to play the best twice to prove they are champions, any team can beat another on the first go, running up the score and letting the other team score on you is not real football, they call it blitz

September 20, 2007  10:59 PM ET

come on yall play that many games against conf. foes now you get less credit. HA HA

September 20, 2007  11:03 PM ET

LSU will play yet another top 15 team this weekend, by sesons end they will play more top rated teams than other schools, is that not enough to be #1???
