Florida freshman linebacker Jerimy Finch will miss the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his lower leg against Tennessee, the Tampa Tribune reported Monday. Finch, who hurt his leg returning his first career interception, may be eligible for a medical redshirt. Head coach Urban Meyer said WR Andre Caldwell (knee sprain) would not play Saturday at Ole Miss. OG Maurkice Pouncey (ankle), CB Markihe Anderson (knee) and WR Riley Cooper (ankle) were to be evaluated Monday, Meyer said.
UPDATE: Anderson and Caldwell will likely not play against Ole Miss. Pouncey and Cooper are expected back this week. Finch was awarded a medical redshirt and will still have four years of eligibility beginning next year.
James gets SEC honor
Kick returner Brandon James was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against Tennessee. James garnered 193 all-purpose yards, including 159 on returns, in Florida's 59-20 win. He opened the scoring against the Vols with a career-long 83 yards punt return for a touchdown on his first touch of the game.
It was James' second career punt return for a touchdown, and tied for the fifth longest in Gator history. He also returned four kickoffs for a 25.5 yard average and had three punt returns for a 30.3 yard average. He leads the nation in punt return average (30.8 ypr).
