Movie-- "Turks Fruit" Diected by Paul Verhoeven. This Dutch film is absolutely amazing. I watched it in my film class two weeks ago and it is the first movie in a very long time that has moved me. In its simplest terms, it's about crazy, in your face, passionate love and what happens to the people involved. If you can find a copy, definitely see this. It is totally 100% spectacular.
Book-- Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen. Ignore the movie with Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder. The book is a great retrospective on the author's time in the infamous McClean Hospital. It is a journey into the mind (of a mental patient) that is very rarely seen. Thought provoking and well written, this is truly a fine piece of non-fiction literature.
Music-- "Phantoms" Acceptance. The fact that this band broke up is incredibly depressing. They were poised to break out and have the success they oh so deserved. This piece of pop-punk/pop-rock is absolutely great. Catchy music coupled with clever lyrics makes for a wonderful album. Though it may be lost on this community, everyone should give this now defunct band a listen.
