It bugs the piss out of me that I have to watch and hope that the Detroit Tigers lose because the Sox can't put away the Yankees.
Eric Gagne kills the Sox once again. If it weren't for Gagne, the Sox would be about 5 1/2 up on the Yankees right now. He'd been looking better recently before imploding in the 8th tonight and dropping the Sox lead to 2 1/2. If I'm Theo and Terry Francona right now, I'm seriously thinking about excluding Mr. Gagne from the post-season roster.
In the NL version of the Sox, Mets fans aren't sleeping well right now as their team tries to give away the division to the Phils. Based on their extremely weak schedule the final two weeks, I still have to give this division to the Mets. I'm sure the sun will shine someday on the Phils, who seem to have made falling just short in the playoff race an art form.
I've got to give my vote to Charlie Manual for NL manager of the year. Pat Gillick has really given him NO pitching whatsoever, but the Phils continue to battle onward.
The city of Philadelphia has issued a suicide watch around the area bridges after the Eagles dropped their second straight to fall to 0 and 2. Days before the season opener, Philadelphia sports radio station WIP and callers had already given the Eagles the first 3 games of the season "based on the weakness of their opposition" over those opening games. "There is NO WAY we don't start out 3 and 0" said one host. Maybe he's dyslexic and meant 0 and 3.
Joba Chamberlain certainly looks like the real deal, but NY Post columnist Kevin Kernan is comparing a guy with 3 weeks major league service (at the time the quote was made) to Roger Clemens in his prime? Come on Mr. Kernan. Let's allow the boy to pitch a full season before calling Cooperstown. I bet you may also have anointed Kevin Maas the next Henry Aaron after he hit 10 HRS in his first month in the majors. And anyone remember Calvin Schiraldi circa 1986?
Dice-K really has slowed down as the longer major league season has progressed. But he makes a hell of a Teletubbie.
