The Twins have always been one of my favorite teams to watch. No matter how much money their owners dont put into a winning program, they always seem to be competitive year long, and have pulled out quite a few postseason appearances this decade. It pains me to see how dismal they are this year. They are in danger of posting a losing record for the year, and they just havent lived up to expectations. And for all of the underachievments on the Twins roster this year, I blame no other person than I do Nick Punto.
Now maybe he's not even underachieving this year. I mean, he never really did have great numbers. Last season brought hope to Minnesota, people thought he had a break out year and would be a solid third baseman for at least four or five years. But it seems that last year was nothing more than a fluke.
Nick Punto's 2006 stats: .290 ave., .352 obp, 17 steals, and 73 runs in 459 at bats.
By no means are these numbers great, Merely slightly above average, but he brings a deadly glove to the field and by his 2006 stats would be a solid addition to most teams.
Bringing you back to the future, or present, I have one question. Who stole Nick Punto's bat and replaced it with **** stick? He has been so atrocious with the bat this year, he just recently pulled his batting average over the Mendoza line. While it may not be easy to read, it is for the best. Bringing to you Nick Punto's 2007 stats will ask many people why Gardenhire has found the need to stuff him in the lineup. Has he really hoped that Nick Punto will bust out of this slump and have a semi productable season?
Nick Punto's 2007 stats: .209 ave, .292 obp, 16 steals, and 51 runs 446 at bats.
What is realy interesting, in my eyes, is that his obp percentage is higher than his slugging average(.267). That means this guy's ops is lower then quite a few hitters slg. It's really making me sick this guy still has a lineup spot, I'm done.
