This will be a story line that will be haunting Phillies fans through this season.  If Werth goes another season putting up some big numbers than his price tag will certainly rise when he officially becomes a free agent.

In the back of my mind I keep telling myself, ???He loves playing in Philly.  He???ll definitely take a Home-Town discount to stay here.???  The fact of the matter is that I feel like no one takes these discounts anymore.  Teams are willing to pay a player an enormous amount of money to come play for them, and who can blame the player for taking the money?

If Werth does produce another all-star caliber season than he will be offered Jason Bay types of contracts, which was 4 year $60 million.  The Phillies more than likely won???t be willing to match any offer that Werth receives, but if they can throw out a figure around the $10 million per year, than maybe there is a chance that he will decide to stay put.

If Werth does take some sort of a discount to remain with the Phillies, I think it would say a lot about his character.  In a world that revolves around money, it is rare to find an individual that would accept less than the top dollar offer.  Werth is a player that this city loves and I would hate to see him leave.
