I tried to do a mock draft before, but I say to hell with that. I'm a Jets fan, and I all I really care about is who the Jets get above all else. This is my thought process on what the Jets should do come draft weekend in April. Currently the team holds draft picks in rounds 1,2,4,5,6,7.
1st round pick 29
Jared Odrick DE- Ellis and Douglas are 30+, he could take over and provide pass rush upgrade.
Devin McCourty CB - If Odrick is not available, draft McCourty. Revis, Cromartie, and McCourty, would allow Dwight Lowery to move to free safety. He had 10 int's as a free safety in San Diego State. Imagine the AFC championship game with three good corners and Lowery playing a ballhawking FS. hmm.....
Taylor Mays S - If Odrick, and McCourty are not available Taylor Mays is an athletic FS that can run. If he plays in an aggressive system defensively, his hitting and tackling are everything Kerry Rhodes was not.
If those 3 are not available, trade down. Other consideration would be Golden Tate, Terrance Cody.
Jacoby Ford WR - The dudes a squirt and he can run a 4.2. That's 4 steps on David Clowney in a foot race down the sideline. He fills the need for a vertical threat, a screen and run, and a dedicated return man.
If he's not available look at Aurelious Benn from Illinois. Even though he's not a burner he runs great routes, can jump like Larry Fitzgerald, and catches everything you throw at him.
Also could address OL depth. Particularly RT for Woody, and both guard positions.
Round 4,5, and 6
I gotta make this blog short to fit. In a nutshell, the team needs to address a speedy wideout. Don't need to do that in the first round because small school speedy wideout's are always available.
Need OL and DL because there are 32 and 33 year old players on both lines that won't last forever.
That's my short take on it. More to follow.
