The (Patriots) and (Bill "Belicheat"), got off way too easy for (NFL) standards.  What is $500,000 dollars do to punish a millionaire coach?  How about $ 250,000 dollars do to a Billionaire?  The answer to both questions is "NOTHING", The NFL and (Roger Goodell) are not serious about trying to stop or even deterr ("CHEATING")!  What The No Fun Leauge should have done is "Suspend Belichick" for at least 2 Games and Forfeited that game versus the Jets.  They should have taken the entire Draft away from the Patriots instead of just one pick.  The NFL is just like the (NBA) it allows its Favorite Teams to cheat so they can get better (RATINGS) on the Boob Tube!  It's all about the (MONEY)!!!  Anytime anybody says " It's not about the money" it turns out that it is exactly about that, "The Money"! Thanks (Jim Rome) for that quote, and this one too " Goodnight Now!!!"

Goodell didn't want to open Pandora's box by punishing the Patriots further or by supporting any notions that we put a mental asterisk by those past achievements. You see, videotaping has not been illegal until this season. But even more importantly, videotaping is just one of many practices (albeit legal) designed to steal signals or steal information (e.g. game plans, playbooks, player statuses). The coaches and league officials and most players understand that signal stealing is signal stealing. Stealing information is stealing information. Stealing is stealing. So any case to retrofit New England history to a current rule will look like an argument on a technicality. It has not heart, and people would respond by saying, "let's examine all these other practices too." And that would just open up the league to more revisionism and rancor, and let me tell you, no one wants that.

And the PATRIOTS have never been good for ratings. The NFL suffers financially when the PATRIOTS are on top. I have heard many pundits remark to the PATRIOTS Era as a "bear market" for the NFL.

They simply are not a popular franchise like the Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders, Giants, Bears, Packers, and even the Dolphins.

And Jim Rome is a Southern California mental midget. He doesn't have the cerebrum for contextual analysis.

September 21, 2007  02:31 PM ET

Man, they got off way too easy. For instance, if the Bengals did something like that due to their track record, they would be getting punished far more seriously than the Pats.

Losing a 1st round pick is a huge penalty. A good team like the Pats, yeah, they pick lower in the round and can probably weather it better than a bad team. Teams are reluctant to give up 1st rounders even to acquire good players, so no one wants to lose one.

I love it, we (The pats) are just going to keep winning superbowls....

Nuff said.

According to Coach Jimmy Johnson on Fox's Pregame last week, he admitted and defended doing the same thing, New England did. And so the "Dallas Dynasty " of the 90's was born. It sucks, but cheaters win and fill the seats. Sound familar?
Look at baseball, steriods increased offense and more homeruns and more ticket sales...figuring out the NFL defense... also puts balls in the air and makes good "pocket quarterbacks"(aka: Aikman and Brady) Super Heros.
Shame on Jimmy for pointing to his bad behavior to justify other bad behavior! It sucks for everyone...but whata I know, I'm just a lame housewife...watching it all on TV.

Are we still kicking this old dog. JEEZE we need a new enemy STAT.

September 25, 2007  11:02 AM ET

Larry, with all due respect, I know this will happen. My comments were meant to reflect more on Jose's take on the league's sudden push to clean it up. And my personal views of the arrogant comments made by Jimmy Johnson on Fox.
Thanks to technology...this isn't the game it used to be and so the moral code is suffering...And I know every team is facing it and doing it. I just find it funny that the NFL is just getting around to noticing that.

September 26, 2007  09:33 PM ET

The NFL is a joke now, It's still my favorite sport ,but now i know for sure about the conspiracy to keep East coast teams at the top. example: New England and their recent Superbowls...

October 1, 2007  01:15 PM ET

Week 4 got put on the back burner, because I did not want to pick against my broncos. Also the Rockies were too much of a unexpected distraction.
