Two great quotes this week. No. 1 comes from Cincinnati Reds right fielder Ken Griffey, Jr., as he describes what his groin injury felt like as it happened against the Cubs on Wednesday:
"The best way I can describe it is it felt like somebody bungee jumped off my right nut," Griffey said. Thanks to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Post as his blog produced that nugget.
The No. 2 quote comes from FoxSports.com contributor Jason Whitlock. If you are not reading his bi-weekly columns, you are missing something. Whitlock combines humor with a lot of common sense. Here is one of his 10 truths from the NFL this week:
"5. The San Diego Chargers weren't very good in their Week 1 victory over the Chicago Bears, either. Norv Turner is already failing in San Diego, and his struggles were relatively easy to predict.
"Marty Schottenheimer is like the guy or girl you lost your virginity to. You never get over him. It doesn't matter that you now realize the sex wasn't any good. Marty makes football fans and football players believe anything is possible. When you inevitably dump him in hopes of finding a coach who can really go all the way, you fall into a depression that affects your performance.
"The Browns and the Chiefs have never recovered from post-Marty stress disorder. The Chargers just might miss the playoffs."

Whitlock is amazing. I hope to be a writer like him. When ESPN fired him, they began their downfall by firing the best writer they have ever had.
