It has already been a great start to the college season. But as I followed the day and the many great games, here is what impressed me.
Mike Hart, Michigan: 44 carries for 152 yds and 1 TD. Seriously, 44 carries against a Penn State defense that had allowed just 14+ yards per game going into to today's tilt.
The 'Cuse. With such a horrific start, the Orange jumped on a Louisville team in disarray and then held on for dear life. U of L defense is putrid, plain and simple. I don't like to be negative, but it is hard to be positive about the Cardinals. Easier for me since I am not a Cardinals fan.
Ball State and Ole Miss. Thanks for making it interesting. Iowa too although trails 14-13 late in the fourth quarter as I type this.
Knowshon Moreno, Georgia. The redshirt freshman tailback was impressive in the 26-23 overtime win at Alabama. He had 76 yards on 19 carries with one score while adding two catches for 23 yards. Not eye-opening numbers, but if you watched the game, his play was.
As a hockey fan, I'll toss it out right. My No. 1 star goes to Derrick Locke, Kentucky. The FOURTH-string tailback saved the day for the Cats. After injuries and poor play provided opportunity, Locke performed. He had nine carries for 47 yards and one score. Those numbers don't sound like much, but his second-half play keyed a UK win when momentum was firmly saying "Sooey".
Still more football to play, it is 11:24 (EDT). But that's who and what has impressed so far. And I know I missed some great plays, I am only one person.
