I don't know if it's a curse so much as it is a long line of coincidences, but getting that franchise quarterback is difficult and sometimes, happens in ways you least expect (see: New England Patriots).
I can understand a Bills' fan getting nervous about the future of the franchise because of how poorly J.P. has been these first two weeks. He has promised an offense that includes big plays and has yet to come through. Trent Edwards is sitting there becoming a fan favorite without even having stepped onto an NFL field during the regular season simply because he is all promise.
The patience of the Buffalo fan will be a major test these next few weeks because I don't envision J.P. making good on his promise any time soon. The Bills schedule continues to be a bear with a couple of exceptions. Although, I think it sets up Losman showing improvement again late in the year and it perhaps being a trick because he will do it against some of the weaker teams the Bills play late in the year (Giants, Browns and Dolphins).
The Broncos, I think, are set at quarterback for now and Miami still has problems at the position. Trent Green may show flashes of brilliance, but he is certainly not a long-term fix and who knows what Beck can give them and you never when, or if, he will see the field.
Another thing about the Bills, they are very young, in fact, I would bet that they have to be one of the five youngest teams in the NFL (maybe even younger than that). They rely on Losman to be the mouthpiece because he is the quarterback, but he still seems in need of guidance himself and they have a rookie running back who is sought after for answers and a rookie linebacker who speaks a lot and they're still trying to overcome a devastating injury to a teammate from Week 1.
From seeing it first hand each week, Losman seems willing, but a tad uncomfortable being the spokesperson for the team. He has confidence in himself and his teammates, but I sometimes doubt if he truly believes what he is saying.
I just wonder who is the true leader of this team now? Moorman and Lindell are never seen during the week at practices unless you make a special request and a lot of their veterans have not been with the team that long. They have a group of players who step up and speak in front of the cameras, but nobody that you can rely on, week after week, to be the spokesperson. What happens behind closed doors is anybody's guess and perhaps there is a guy or group of guys who other players lean on to be "the" leader.
The Bills are a team people need to be extremely patient with, but they have a quarterback running out of time and a once proud franchise quickly becoming irrelevant in the national scene of the NFL. It's a shame because the team, the city and its fans deserve better, but this franchise is stuck in a huge rut right now that it has struggled with for the better part of this decade.
