There have been endless articles and even more Throwdowns on which Conference is best, what team, and how certain victories prove A is better than B so C is the result. After this week, the real answer might be wait and C.
Of course, I'd say 99% of us would like to see some sort of playoff system where these arguments, polls, and some odd math formula dont ultimately decide best two teams for a title shot. If only we could somehow figure a way to do it. Such a Struggle, incredible odds. Oh nevermind, I forgot we do this for Division IAA (now DivI playoff division) and Div II, III etc... Think about it. We would only need to determine the top 8 teams (even if we keep the BCS system with its flaws for this). Really not alot of sympathy if you are 9 and think you are 8. Well not at least as strange as the current 2 or are you 3 argument.
Could you imagine if things end as they are now (obviously they won't but lets pretend) #1 USC v 8 OSU, 2 LSU v 7 Texas, 3 Fla vs Cal, and OU and WV ... and these are the 1st round games. How would this not be great. Oh yeah Bowls ... because we need more Taco Bell Gordita Bowls.
Okay but we have the BS system so lets talk about what we know or dont. Last week it was the SEC is great just look at up and coming KY edging out "power" Louisville. Of course, 1 week later Louisville loses at home to perhaps the worst BCS team in America -- Syracuse. So that win is tainted. How will that affect WV's changes down the road when their big game is now against low ranked or even unranked Louisville.
Then there is Florida. They were being handled by Ole Miss. Huh? A team that lost to Vany by 14. Not exactly the performance of a top 3 team. But they did survive. But can they hold up to LSU or is Tennessee just that bad where FLA's win isn't that significant.
Then there is Michigan. They look like a Division 3 practice squad, beat up ND (but it is ND so really), but now they go and beat Penn St in an ugly boring game. Penn St who many people were giving the Big 10 and a top 10 finish to boot.
Then you have #16 Tex Am being doubled up by the Canes who couldnt do anything the previous weeks. I guess it shows that other than 3 teams (USC, LSU, OU) we really dont know who is great or which conference is best. Perhaps there shouldnt be any poll until October.
Oh and by the way... all the clamour for App St being allowed to be voted into the top 25 with new rules changes (why does a playoff divison team need a ranking by the way) ... lost today to Wofford. Yes I know you are saying who. They are in South Carolina. Know I swear they do exist.
