Faithful,

We knew that if our offense didnt step it up, we were going to have a heck of a time against Pittsburgh on the road, and we did. Apparently Offensive coordinator Jim Hostler heard our cries to throw to Vernon Davis, and he did make a notable attempt to use the stud TE a little more, but still not enough.  Frank Gore was stopped most the day, obviously because of the one-dimensionality of our offense. Our defense gave up way to many run yards, but still looks most impressive, with the hands-down defensive rookie of the year, Patrick Willis laying people out.

I have many things I need to speak about, but lets start at the top.

Jim Hostler. First year offensive coordinator. The man who is supposed to continue the development of Alex Smith. Why wont you call a play to let him throw the ball downfield?! I have witnessed too many plays that have Alex Smith throwing the dink and dunk 3-5 yard passes and its just not getting it done. We as niner fans have been watching this pathetic brand of football for way too long now. Our niners throw it downfield! We have some deep threats now, and it appears as if we wont call their numbers.

My perception is that Nolan is so focused on 'NOT LOSING' that he is scared to let the offense cut lose. In order to win, he is going to play it close and not risk anything. I respect it to a degree, but this is a win-now league, and we are not playing championship caliber football. Our offense is just way to predictable and boring.

Alex Smith. #1 draft pick. QB of the franchise. We expect more. Alex Smith has shown great growth in the past two seasons, but has yet to earn the respect of the league or the fans. At some point, he has to step up and stop making poor decisions. His throws are inaccurate and weak and he doesnt look at more than one or two of his receivers, thus missing out on big plays. If Alex Smith doesnt vastly improve soon, I think looking for another replacement is a legitimate move.

Our defense looked great except for giving up all those running yards, but our pass rush is much improved, and our secondary is impressive. Patrick Willis is the man, and I think he will lead our defense for some time to come. Next week, we play our division rival Seattle Seahawks, so we better get it together and take this next one to secure our lead in the division. I expect a victory.

Gore was stopped "most" of the day? Which part of his 39 yards did he seem to be running free?
