Ok, so the first round of this "who was the better #1 pick" battle had to go to Bush, didn't it? The electric year he had last season and the Saints feel-good run into the post-season really made this look lopsided, (even to me, and I couldn't care less because the Broncos had no chance for either of them.) However upon closer inspection, I don't really know if round one should have gone to Bush. Maybe it was closer than you and i think.....lets go to the numbers...... Here's what Mario Williams did last year... Year Team Tk Ast Sck Stf FF FR PD Int Yds TD 2006 HOU 35 12 4.5 4 1 1 4 0 0 0 not great, but lets look at another big name d-end you may have hear of Julius Peppers Team Tk Ast Sck Stf FF FR PD Int Yds TD Car 29 7 12 2.5 5 0 6 1 21 0 Peppers is one of the greats in the league right now, but his stats aren't that much better than Mario's. Now Reggie Bush's numbers Year Team Rush Yds Avg Lg TD 1st Stf YdL Fmb Fbl 2006 NO 155 565 3.6 18 6 27 22 52 2 2 6 Touchdowns is pretty good, but look at the avg. yards per carry.....3.6...not so good. Here's another back in his first year...not nearly as hyped, but close in stats. Year Team Rush yards avg. lg td 1st sft ydl fmb fbl 2001 BUF 213 729 3.4 25 4 34 33 62 5 2 This isn't Thurman Thomas, it's Travis Henry. Now would you still say Bush is electric, or would you call him serviceable? I just don't see what the huge deal is about him. Yes, in college he was unstoppable, but so were a lot of players that couldn't quite pull it off in the NFL...He may end up as the greatest back since Barry Sanders, but I don't see it.. I'd also like to hear all those folks at the draft calling for the Texan's GM to be drug out into the street and shot, appologize and tell him, "hey maybe you do know more than i do. maybe you did see a little more film on these guys than i did. maybe you did interview them, oh yea and i didn't...... please let me go back to my hot, domestic beer and leave the thinking to the thinkers..." let's hear it..."it's early in the year, you can't say after 2 games that this discussion is over, or that williams is better than reggie bush." true, but this is my spot..let me quote what Peter King said today in mailbag about reggie bush.... "Reggie Bush (2007: 29 carries, 80 yards, 2.8 yards per carry) is simply not an impact player in the pro game -- so far."....no i don't think reggie bush is the second comming, but at least i'm not alone...now back to that hot, domestic beer i just set down......ZaZ.............ps my spelling sucks, and i know it... i don't need to hear about it from the likes of you...
