Coach Lee's Top 20

I wanted to get a look at all the teams before I made my choices. In my opinion, when they start off the year by demoting last year's number one - that is just wrong. Whether I like them or not, whoever won it all last year ought to start at the top of the mountain and it is up to everybody else to knocks them off. That said, after four weeks, (since the NCAA insists on not having a playoff!) I feel I can justify some adjustments. So, without further ado, here are my top 20 picks for the week, based on games completed through Saturday. September 22, 2007:

1. USC

2. Florida

3. LSU

4. Oklahoma

5. Wisconsin

6. Ohio State

7. Oregon

8. West Virginia

9. California

10. Michigan State

11. Texas

12. Kentucky

13. Rutgers

14. South Florida

15. Clemson

16. Arizona State

17. Cincinnati

18. Missouri

19. Purdue

20. (tie) Alabama and Boston College

Teams you ranked below Wisconsin that will beat or could beat them-
OSU, WVU, UK, Oregon, Cal, Rutgers, ASU, Alabama...

I have no problem with the top 4. You could legitmately have OSU, WVU, or Oregon at the 5th spot. Wisconsin at 5? I don't think so. They have been hanging on for dear life in all of their games so far. Michigan St. at 10. Are you justifying this because they beat a horrible ND team and a mediocre Pitt squad. Give me a break.

To formulate my picks I am looking beyond scores. I am looking at actual position play and improvement from week to week. However, you guys may be right. I'm just willing to put my neck out and tell what I believe will be proved out as play continues. If I am correct in the end, I am certain you will come back and congratulate me (right!). If I am not, I expect I will hear more of the same. Either way, it is all fun for those of us who no longer have to strap it up and bring it. ...Although that is exactly what I miss. At age 47, though, those days are long past.

Good Job badgerinbama, finally an ex-jock that really puts a blue collar spin on rankings. I'll be looking for honest adjustments as the year goes on.
