In the wake of this whole incident, the consensus that I've seen portrays Mike Gundy as the hero with Jenni Carlson playing the villian. Why exactly is that? He berated a reporter who was simply doing her job. I can see if he simply said that what she said was wrong and ended it at that. That is his opinion, and he is entitled to it. But instead, he overshadowed his team's victory by screaming at a columnist for three and a half minutes. I also have my opinion. If you don't like what she wrote, then don't read it. It's just that simple. She did not attack Reid's character off the field and what kind of person. All she said was that he had questionable attitude on the field and maybe he wasn't toughing some injuries out which would go along with his overall attitdude. It is Jenni Carlson's job to stir the pot and speculate about situations like this. She is a columnist. She might not have ever suited up in her life, but probably has enough experience in sports to see if a player is giving 100% on the field. She even said Bobby Reid was the most talented quarterback on OK State, but he had attitude problems. I see nothing wrong with that. Since when were college athletes totally immune to on-field criticism? He might be a great kid, but Bobby Reid is 21 years-old, so I'm sure he has a very brittle ego at that age. He is an amateur athlete, so does that make him somehow unable to handle anything negative said about him? There are plenty of teenagers in the NBA who are eaten alive in the papers and it was almost always justified. I don't remember their coaches screaming at the media when those teenagers were written about. They may be getting paid, but they're just as old as college athletes and many college athetes do get paid in the way of scholarships they get for athletics they might not receive for academics. College athletes are treated like rock stars especially in places where the college game is the only game. So the moral of the story is, you can be put on a pedestal and treated like a god, but if somebody ever tries to point out your faults, that's over the line and that person is wrong. That's a good message to send. There's no double standard there. I'm sick of hearing this story and I'm even more sick to see everybody rush to Gundy's defense.
