On the day of 9/11/07,the New York Metropolitans had a 6 game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. Now, on 9/27/07, the have a 0 game lead. This Mets team had had ups and downs this year, but this has just turned Manhattan from "the city that never sleeps" into "the city that sleeps".
In 2006, everything went right for the Mets. They finished with a great 97-65, almost finishing with 100 wins. Now, in '07, they had big expectations. They have NOT lived up to them. Now, they have the Phillies breathing down their neck and the Mets are collapsing. They can't hold a lead, they can't beat the worst teams, and they can't WIN. Everything has gone wrong for this team. Now, it's going to be a struggle for them to make the playoffs. The Mets and Yankees have switched positions. And that, is the story of the monumental collapse.
