Scrooge's Rant

I had a very good Week 3 with my picks going 12-4.  For the year, I'm 33-15 and that's a 69% winning percentage for the year, which is excellent.  I'm beating all the guys at ESPN right now except for Schlereth, who I'm only one game behind to.  Hopefully, I'll have another great week with my picks.  Here they are:

Texans @ Falcons

The Falcons are just a bad team, but DeAngelo Hall did an excellent job on Steve Smith last week(even though he had 3 penalties, those were horrible calls by the officials).  I think that Hall'll take Andre Johnson out of the game just like he did to Steve Smith, but that Falcons defense can't stop the run.  I expect the Texans to run all over the Falcons, regardless of who's playing runningback.  Offensively for the Falcons, Joey Harrington still can't play, he did have a good game against the Panthers, but he still sucks and I expect that very good Texans front to force Harrington into mistakes.

Jets @ Bills

The Bills are the worst team in the NFL right now, they just suck.  The Bills defense is really hurting right now and I expect Thomas Jones to run the ball at will as Laverneous Coles and Jericho Cotchery torch the Bills awful secondary.  Offensively, the only thing the Bills have is Marshawn Lynch.  The Jets'll stack the box in an effort to stop Lynch and Trent Edwards isn't a very good quarterback.  Eric Mangini should dial up some blitzes to confuse Edwards and force him into mistakes.  The Jets'll beat the living crap out of the Bills.

Ravens @ Browns

The Browns are a much better team than they were last year, but they're no match for the Ravens.  The reason Kurt Warner torched the Ravens defense at the end of the game is because no one expected Warner to come into the game.  What happened to the Ravens defense last Sunday will not happen again.  Anyways, the key to the Browns offense is Jamal Lewis and the Ravens have one of the best rushing defenses in the league, so Jamal Lewis is going nowhere.  That'll force the Browns into 3rd and longs as Derek Anderson gets eaten alive.  I expect Willis McGahee to rush for a ton of yards against a horrible Browns rush defense as the Ravens win big.

Bears @ Lions

The Bears are another one of those teams who're better than what their record shows, but the Bears don't have much of a shot.  They're missing Tommie Harris and Lance Briggs as Vasher and Tillman could miss the game as well.  That's why I expect Roy Williams to have a huge game as Calvin Johnson rips an injured Bears defense.  However, Brian Griese should have some success downfield against a porous Lions defense, but he won't do enough to match what the Lions do offensively.

Raiders @ Dolphins

The Raiders are a different team than they were last year.  I never thought I'd be saying this, but that Raiders offensive line is playing decent and the Raiders have a good defense as well, but the one weakness  in the Raiders defense is the inability to stop the run.  Cam Cameron is a master with runningbacks and I expect Ronnie Brown to play very well and he should have a big game.  Even though that Raiders offensive line is playing decent, it won't be enough to stop Jason Taylor and the rest of that Dolphins front 7.  I expect the Dolphins to kill the Raiders at home.

Packers @ Vikings

Brett Favre has played extremely well and he's done an excellent job even with the complete absence of a running game.  The way to attack the Vikings defense is to spread them out and let it fly, and that's exactly what the Packers did such a great job of last week against the Chargers.  As for the Packers on the other side of the ball, I expect that Packer defense to blitz the hell out of the Vikings and force who ever the guy under center is for the Vikings to some mistakes.  I like the Packers big on the road.

Buccaneers @ Panthers

This is going to be a slug fest, here are two good defensive teams ready to battle it out.  The Bucs defense is back to its old ways and apparently Jeff Garcia is playing pretty well, but let's see how well he plays with Julius Peppers breathing down his neck.  I expect both teams to have little success running the ball.  Offensively for both teams, it's going to come down to who can throw the ball better.  I think the Panthers'll win because they're at home, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Bucs come away with the win.

Steelers @ Cardinals

I think the Steelers will trash the Cardinals.  The reason the Cardinals had so much success against the Ravens defense last week is because the Ravens didn't see it coming.  Dick LeBeau saw the way the Cardinals run the no huddle with Kurt Warner in the game and his defense should and will shut down the Cardinals offense this week.  On the other side, the Cardinals have a pretty good defense and I think they'll be able to slow down Willie Parker, but Big Ben should be able to find a few holes in the Cardinals defense and take advantage of those holes.

Chiefs @ Chargers

Here are two teams that can't run the football with two stud backs and two teams that have two horrible head coaches.  I like the Chargers because I don't think the Chiefs have the weapons offensively to have any success against the Chargers by spreading them out.  That's why I think Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips will make it a tough day for Damon Huard.  I also think that LaDanian Tomlinson gets his breakout game this season against a bad defensive football team of the Chiefs.  I think that the Chiefs will really jumpstart the Chargers.

Eagles @ Giants

The Eagles showed everyone that they're still a team to be reckoned with last Sunday as Eli Manning showed he could lead his team back from 14 points down on the road against a very good Redskins team.  The Giants showed a lot of fight, but the Eagles are just too much for the Giants to handle.  I expect McNabb to torch a bad Giants secondary just like he did to the Lions last week.  I also expect Eli to have some big plays down the field with Plexico Burress, Amani Toomer, and Jeremy Shockey.  This game'll be close because it's going to be one of those close division games and I like the Eagles, but the Giants do have a shot at winning this game.

Rams @ Cowboys

The Rams are a horrible team and they're just not able to get anything going offensively.  I expect DeMarcus Ware to have a huge game.  Also, Greg Ellis could be back this week, which should give the Cowboys defense a big lift defensively.  That Cowboys front 7 is pretty good and that Rams offensive line is bad, that's why I expect Marc Bulger to make some mistakes as Steven Jackson goes nowhere.  As for the Rams defense, they can't stop the run.  I expect Julius Jones and Marion Barber to trample the Rams defense as Tony Romo and Jason Witten should have huge games.

Patriots @ Bengals

I like the Patriots, but I think the game'll be close, real close.  The one thing the Patriots have struggled with defensively is their red zone defense and I think the Bengals will be able to put up some points on the Pats.  However, that Patriots offense is just too potent for the Bengals to match up with.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if this game turns into another rout in favor of the Patriots, but I just don't think it'll happen.

Broncos @ Colts

The Colts will kill the Broncos on Sunday.  The Broncos will be able to slow down Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Anthony Gonzalez with that excellent secondary, but that Broncos run defense is horrible.  I expect Joseph Addai to have a huge game running the ball as that should be able to open up the play action pass.  That should cause the Denver safeties to bite just a bit and I expect some big plays for Dallas Clark to open up across the middle of the field.  As for the Broncos offense, I expect Travis Henry to be able to move the ball and Jay Cutler should be able to make some throws with his arm, but he won't be able to put enough points on the board to be in position to beat the Colts.

Seahawks @ 49ers

I think that the Seahawks are one of the most overrated teams in the NFL right now.  Shaun Alexander can't play anymore, he's too old and he's had too many carries over the years.  That 49er defense is pretty good and they'll be able to force Hassleback into some bad throws and they'll be able to create turnovers.  On the other side of the ball, I expect Frank Gore and that 49er offensive line to maul the smallish defense of the Seahawks.  I like the 49ers to win in a close game, but I wouldn't be surprised if this game becomes a blowout.
