It was announced today that legendary Milwaukee Brewers announcer Bob Uecker will have heart surgery on Friday. Uecker, now 75 years old, played for four teams in his 6 year MLB career. After retiring from baseball, Uecker became the Brewers play-by-play man in 1971, a position he has held ever since. Arguably the most famous baseball announcer, Uecker also made a name for himself in Hollywood, making 64 appearances on The Tonight Show and several Miller Lite commercials. Uecker soon became a beloved baseball announer in the movie world as well, playing Harry Doyle, the Cleveland Indians announcer in the Major League series of films. Uecker has been known for his many quotes on the game of baseball, ones like "How do you catch a knuckleball? Wait until it stops rolling, then go to the backstop and pick it up", or "You know, I was once named Minor League Player of the Year...unfortunately, I had been in the majors for two years at the time". Uecker is one of the greats in Major League Baseball, and I felt it was needed to mention this announcement. Get well Bob, we'll all keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
