Last week the competition for the starting QB for the Georgia Bulldogs got narrowed down to two, as QB Zach Mettenberger was kicked off the team. It looks like this week another Bulldogs' QB is leaving the Georgia program, as Logan Gray is weighing his options of staying at Georgia or transferring elsewhere. Last week Mark Richt announced that Freshman Aaron Murray was the number one QB on the depth chart, and there's no doubt that the rumors about Gray are due to this fact. It was previously rumored that Gray could be switching positions, but now it looks like he will be a quarterback no matter what. Although I certainly understand why Logan Gray would want to go somewhere else, I think him leaving the program will be a huge mistake for both himself and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Logan needs to realize that the depth chart is by no means set for the season. Aaron Murray is a freshman, and the chances of bad games are pretty high for someone new to college football and the SEC in particular. Although Gray's scrambling style isn't always well-received by fans, most bickering fans will be silenced just as long as Gray is able to get the job done. Logan will probably get some opportunities early in the season if he sticks around, and he could easily win the job if he performs well enough.

The potential loss of Logan Gray could prove disasterous for the Georgia Bulldogs, as the loss of Gray and Mettenberger leaves two QBs on the roster: Murray, the projected starter, and 2010 signee Hutson Mason, a Parade Magazine All-American from Lassiter High near Atlanta. The fact that the only person backing up Aaron Murray could just be a true Freshman makes me feel uneasy, and the loss of Murray could spell disaster for the 2010 season. The mere thought of such a potential problem is scary to any Bulldog fan, but one thing could keep this nightmare from happening: Bulldogs' coach Mark Richt talks to Gray, let's him know he still has an opportunity to win the starting job, and talks him into staying with the Dawgs.
