The Real Wisconsin Badgers

The Wisconsin Badgers 2007 football team has been up and down.  Every week it seems the Badgers let their opponents hang around, only to sneak out a close win.  A perfect example of this is just this week when they played Michigan State.  The Badgers had a 34-24 lead, only to give up 10 unanswered points.  While Wisconsin got the win 37-34 it should have never been that close.  Another great example of the Badgers not living up to expectations was the prior week versus Iowa.  The defense held up their end of the deal but the offense didnt show up.  The defenses ineptness has been present in 4 of 5 games.  Its really a good thing the offense is as good as it is.  I think the game versus UNLV would have been alot different if Lance Smith wouldn't have been an idiot and hit his girlfriend.  On offense they need to get creative and find ways to put the ball in David Gilreath's hands, every single time he touches the ball something good could happen.  I also love the play of another true freshman Kyle Jefferson, he's another big play target.  I also love the mobility of quarterback Tyler Donovan.  Also P.J. Hill has been doing a great job wearing down apposing defenses. Travis Beckum is such a talented tight end the Badgers have to keep throwing the ball his direction.  All in all I think that oc Paul Chryst has been doing a great job of mixing things up. Also I think special teams has been doing a nice job.  Taylor Mehlhaff and Ken DeBauche are 2 very good specialists.  But back to the defense.  All of the missed tackles is tough to watch.  The defense only gets stops when they absolutely have to, and I give them credit for that.  I would just like to see them get more stops earlier in the game, and lower the crucialness of all those late game possessions.  Maybe its time the Badgers part ways with defensive cooridnatior Mike Hankwitz.
