Okay... after Saturday you have to agree that we need a playoff system. College football is at a place that South Florida is ranked number 6?!! They are a good team but a national champion team??? Have you looked at their conference?!
We should allow every division winner to make the playoffs with a small number of teams making it as wildcards. The bowl games would be setup for the playoffs and generate as much if not more money. The teams could also only play 10 games; not counting their conference championships.
Teams in the SEC like Kentucky, Georgia, Tennesse, Florida, Arkansas, South Carolina, Auburn, Alabama and LSU could fight it out but there would still be hope if there were playoffs. Now teams like USC have three real games and can walk to the championship. Now do not get me wrong; they are a good team. The playoffs makes the playing table more balanced and gives teams a shot at the gold no matter what conference you play in.
Saturday showed that no team is safe and there are some really good teams out there that get overlooked. With the sysem we have now USC could play South Florida; if Californis loses to USC. Ohio State has to lose and LSU has to lose to Florida; they will probally play twice. As we saw on Saturday; anything can happen.
I just do not see how each year we can continue to watch other divisions compete in the playoffs and see many great teams get overlooked because of one game or a schedule. Sadly, we will probally still be saying this for years to come but it is a shame to see teams that are clearly better never get a shot and teams that have a soft schedule always get the chance at the gold.
I think saying you won a championship knowing you beat the best team goes much farther than knowing you beat the best BCS ranked team. It could be another crushing defeat like last year.
What do you think it will take for the system to finally be changed?
