OK. What can I say. I'm speechless. We're speechless. All of NFL fandom is speechless.

How can a team with all of the talent like the Chargers be so utterly horrible? Pound for pound, they are loaded. What would happen to cause such a talented team to crater so badly 4 games into the 2007 season? Two reasons -

1. AJ Smith's ego

2. Norv Turner

All self-respecting Charger fans should be feveroushly dialing the Chargers offices, overwhelming their switchboard, to tell the Spanos family to make a change NOW! What has happened (Marty's firing and now this!) is absolutely unacceptable. If this type of disaster happened in the "normal" corporate world, Norv would be history and AJ Smith's employment would be very tenuous, at best. The Chargers front office better make some decisions soon before real damage occurs. This has the makings of a disaster on the level of '98. Please don't pound this team back to the Ryan Leaf era! Pray for the Charger fans.

As a Pats fan, I don't have much sympathy for the Bolts. But I can empathise with their fans.

You'll never confuse me with Norv Turner's biographer; Aside from his record, I know little of what he has done in this league.

I can say that team culture, as in every business, is underrated and very important. It is easy to pass over that when you have the best halfback and tight end in the league - sprinkle in a better than average QB, a couple of wideouts, and presto - you're the '99 Rams.

Not so simple. It seems the team (particularly LDT) had an affinity for Marty, and feel management was mis-guided when they cut him loose. Never a big fan of Marty-ball myself, but at least it gets you to the playoffs.

Now, Rivers can't sustain drives, LT is having to juke and jive 5 yds. in the backfield, and their secondary just gave up 164 yds. to a rookie, from KC, at home. The team has gone soft.

A bit of a reprieve is coming - they should win (eeeeek!) four of their next five. Then again, they should be 3-1 right now. I think New England damaged (not just beat) them. They opened up the book on how to beat the Bolts: attack the secondary; make their WR beat you; eight-man fronts on LT.

But if Norv Turner is your coach - Do you enter a game feeling your team has out prepared, out game-planned, and will out adjust the team across the field?

Again, I don't know Norv, and I'm a bit spoiled with Belichick calling the shots in NE. But isn't installing Norv Turner to coach the Bolts like giving your 16 year-old the keys to the ferrari?
