Chicago Bears Recap upto Week 4

Chicago Bears Up To Week 4

Now that there is nothing left too say about the White Sox I might as well talk about the Bears early struggles. The only thing to look forward too is Special Teams even though there is still problems there too.

Offensive Line- This is were it is all starting at. First the O-Line is a nice size issue with Fred Miller, Ruben Brown, Olin Kreutz, Roberto Garza, and John Tait. Aside from Kreutz and Garza the rest of the line has been missing blocks and footwork is looking terrible. The Bears need to seriously draft a OT in the 1st or 2nd round next year and another OG or there going to be in for a world of trouble. I've notice that the QB has only had about 3-4 seconds before he is hurried or sack almost every play. Not to add that Benson and Peterson hasn't had any holes to make it to the second or third level of the opponents defense. Grade: D

QB- Now that they got Grossman out the QB situation it is a little better but not much considering that Griese gave up 3 INTs with 2TDs, 1 in garbage time. They really needed to pick Byron Leftwich up when he got released by the Jaguars so they didn't have too spend there first rounder on a QB but there still is a chance they can get McNabb this offseason but I don't see him leaving Philly even thought he grew up in Chicago. Grade: D-

RB- Cedric Benson is nothing to want for a every down back. He was a great #2 back when they had Thomas Jones. He doesn't put the effort to run down hill and run defenders over anymore. Everyone can see that the Jones trade was a mistake and they are going to have to live with it for the next 1-2 years cause they have a lot more of Offensive holes to fill before RB. As for now I would probably rather see Adrian Peterson as the starter and Benson come in as the #2 back. Grade: C-

WR- There are so many weapons but they don't have a QB that can get the ball to them. As much as I like Moose he has to go I'm tired of seeing him not able to get open and separating him from the CB. He is too slow and isn't worth the money he is getting paid. As for Berrian he isn't the same as last year he has a dozen dropped passes and 2 or 3 deflected for an interception. Most of the receiving problems will be solved when they get Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark in with the double tight formation which will open up the middle of the field a little more. Grade: B-

Defense- This has been really good this year with keeping them in the game since the offense is turning the ball over with INTs and fumbles every time and if they don't turn it over then it's a 3 and out. Now the Bears look like crap with 7 of there 11 starting defenders injured. Nathan Vasher, Peanut Tillman, Mike Brown, Adam Archuleta, Lance Briggs, Dusty Dvoracek, and Tommie Harris which did play but was a game time decision. If the defense wasn't on the field for more than 3 quarters of the game then they could shut there opponents down on a regular base. Grade: A-

Special Teams- This has been great with Hester all ready with two Returns for TD's and would have been three if it wasn't for one being called back.

Also Israel Idonije with two field goal blocks and one extra point block has been doing great along with the rest of the field goal blocking team blocking 4 field goal out of 8 or 9 attempted. There is one problem and that is Hester fumbling and not catching punts cleanly although none have been fumbles lost this will come back to haunt them later on if they don't fix it. Grade: A+

I will try to have one of these each week for my beloved Bearz and hopefully we can get the wheels going and slow the powerful Cheeseheads down so we can make the playoffs. Also please join my Chicago White Sox's group which I will be posting blogs about the Bears on since there's nothing to write about during the offseason. http://fannation.com/groups/show/13965

Thanks for reading my blog and will love to hear your opinions and things that might need to be add to make it better.

It looks like the formula for teams who decide to build a team aound the defense has a one-year championship lifespan ( a la '00 Ravens, '02 Bucs, '06 Bears). If the Bears, or any team for that matter, want to build a contender for more than two years, then they should tank enough games to draft themselves a Pro Bowl quarterback. Don't believe me? Look at the Pats and Colts. Even the Eagles had their era.

Nice blog! I think you are being too hard on the QBs and too easy on the receivers. Dropped balls kill drives.

Right on with everything else, though. Eerily similar to my blog today... :)

Great blog, but I have to agree with Sneaky, more blame on the Bears WR

Yea i agree with both of you but how I looked at it is that they have an Grade A receivers an TEs but with all these drops and not able to go across the middle is hurting the receiving ranking. Also the QBs have had some bad throws and the Offensive line excluding Olin doesn't even look like they can beat high school defensive line. The QB only has a couple seconds before he the pocket collapses.

My grade for the WRs is a C-. One of these days we'll draft or sign a FA QB who'll be a difference maker.

The main thing that is right about the whole thing though is the o-line, its been pathetic. I know Grossman has many faults but getting hit while hes just reaching a 3 step drop? No NFL QB should be getting hit immediately on a 3 step drop, Montana would be having problems in this offense.

Great blog, I agree with you on the O-line. That is the biggest problem. I don't think you can grade the wr's yet, cause we just changed qb. They need time to adjust.
