This weekend has some interesting matchups.  Living in Chattanooga, Tenn., I'll admit to a little SEC bias, but I enjoy football from all over the country.  Especially when you talk about Pac-10 and Big EAST games because they often prove the most entertaining.

On to the list (rankings are Harris Poll - Why Harris?  To quote John Blutarski....Why Not?):

MARQUIS MATCHUPS:
(8) Florida at (2) LSU - Florida loses and its out of the national title picture.  I think LSU Is the best team in the country right now.
THUR NIGHT - (7) Kentucky at (14) South Carolina - What kind of world do we live in that UK is in the top 10 and in the driver's seat in the SEC East, while the Cubs have a shot at the World Series title.  This is the fourth sign in the Apocalypse I believe.  That said, I've enjoyed watching the Cats run to this point.  Both the Louisville and Arkansas wins were exciting and prove this club knows how to win.  A Spurrier-coached team has never lost to UK.

SOMETHING TO PROVE:

(4) Ohio State at (20) Purdue - Boilers can prove they are for real.  The Buckeyes will prove otherwise.
(5) Wisconsin at Illinois - Wisconsin has not been impressive.  The Illini at 2-0 in the Big 10 can take a huge step forward with a home upset.  I'll take the Illini as the Badgers are overrated.
(23) Nebraska at (18) Missouri - The winner hopes to make a statement in the Big 12.   Not sure I can pick a winner here, but why not....go with the home team.
Vandy (3-1) at Auburn (3-2) - The 'Dores can take a major step toward legitimacy with an upset here.  After a home loss to Mississippi State, I don't see the Tigers allowing it.

GOTTA WATCH:
(9) Oklahoma vs. (17) Texas - This is a must-watch rivalry game from year-to-year.  Ranks up there with Army-Navy, Ohio State-Michigan, Auburn-Alabama, etc.  I don't care who wins, but I'll go with the 'Horns just to see an agitated Bob Stoops.
(12) Georgia at Tennessee - Border state rivals battle to stay in the SEC East race.  It is wide open (how else can you describe it with UK leading the way).  UGa has been impressive on the ground and UT is one of the worst tackling teams in the country.  Not sure when the last Vol team I saw actually wrap up on a regular basis.  Thomas Brown and Knowshon Moreno are not going to fall down just because they are nudged.

ONLY BECAUSE THEY ARE RANKED (AKA Watch if you need a good nap):

(15) Virginia Tech at (22) Clemson - How Tech is ranked No. 15 I'll never know.  Clemson has not impressed me.
(24) Cincinnati at (21) Rutgers - Actually Cincy should be in the something to prove list.  Rutgers needs a big bounce back game.

SENTIMENTAL FAVORITE:

Virginia at Middle Tennessee - Go Blue Raiders!

If Florida hadn't already lost, I'd say this would be the first of two meetings between them and LSU: here and the next one in the SEC championship game, but if they get a 2nd SEC loss, LSU will probably play somebody else.

OK/Texas is always a good one, even if they just lost last week. It may not determine the National Championship game, but it should be entertaining. And keep in mind.... How many undefeated teams will be left some the end of the season. A one-loss team could very well make it to The Game, and nobody is paying attention to this game anymore, and the winner could very well make it in the end. Maybe, maybe not, but keep that in mind.

Ohio State is the best of the worst in the Big Ten. It's amazing how they reload every year, but still, they have to catch up to the SEC and Pac 10.

The Big East is still a joke -- I could care less about their conference games -- when one of their teams wins a National Championship, let me know. (Miami doesn't count since they're in the ACC now.)

A good blog post. Thanks. Much needed time to waste during the day.

I agree on the chances a one-loss team plays in the title game. I'll go a step further, two one-loss teams may play in the game. USF is a wild card as the Big EAST is the the BCS league most likely to produce an undefeated team. The Big EAST is about entertainment. I think the SEC and Pac-10 are easily the best leagues with the ACC a ways back (southern term) in third and the other three well behind it.

I agree, the Big 10 have another set of pillow fights scheduled for the weekend and the Big Least bandwagon is about to get short.

It is amazing how far the Big 10 has fallen. With no real rooting interest, I'm pulling for Michigan to win it. After the first two weeks and how all the "experts" wrote them off, it'd make a great story. If USF runs the table, they will be in the title game. It will be hard for LSU and USC to go undefeated. I am still on record as saying the Bengal Tigers are the best team this year, but there is a long way to go.
